A message from our Director, Rene Baker

Survey Results, Thank You!

Thank you for participating in our Parent Survey that was released in January. Your feedback is invaluable and we appreciate the time you put into completing the survey. We use this data in two ways. First, we examine this data to analyze our current practices and to make improvements in the future. Second, this data is required as part of our accreditation process. The survey is managed by the accrediting organization, AdvancEd, and we do not have control over the questions on the survey. If you have additional feedback that was not asked in the survey, please email me at Check out the results in the PDF document below.

We are required to survey parents twice per year; stay tuned for the survey to go out again at the end of the school year.

Thank you for your support and for entrusting us with your children.

Wanted: Lost Montessori Materials

Our Montessori materials are beautiful and we know children love them. If you happen to find these lovely materials at home, please return them to school. These materials are expensive and very missed. Some works cannot be used at all if they are not complete. Thank you for your support.

Recruiting MAPA Vice President / President

MAPA Board is currently looking for a Vice President for the remainder of the year who will then become the President for the 2108-2019 school year. Please contact if you or someone you know who would be interested.

If you don't know what MAPA is... it is our school's PTA program. The Fall Festival, Gala, book fairs, teacher appreciation, classroom safety kits, box tops (and more!) all happen because of MAPA. We want these wonderful events and opportunities to continue to happen for our school and students, so keep your eyes and ears open for someone who would do a great job!

Wanted: Parents interested in helping with fundraising for 2018-2019

We are in need of a Chair and Co-chair to organize our fundraising for the 2018-2019 school year. Committee members are also welcome! Funds raised go towards all grade levels. We have streamlined things quite a bit so that there are only 4 major fundraising events throughout the year instead of one a month, and we have had an incredible community response in donations to these events. The skeleton is pretty well in place- we just need parents to take it and run! If you are interested please contact . We would like to meet with everyone as soon as possible so that dates can be set for next year's events and assignments can be given on things that need to be started on to give the committee a head start for next year. If you have questions, please contact Jenna Beers at (801)695-5864.

MMA Teacher Spotlight-Mr. John (Upper Elementary Lead Teacher)

How did you find out about Montessori Education? I heard a little about Montessori in England, but my first "physical" interaction with Montessori was here in Utah. I'd just arrived from the UK and started looking for work. I lived just up the road in North Ogden and MMA was advertising for Special Education assistants. I'd taught in Special Ed in England so this was the first job I applied for in the US and the rest is history as they say!

How long have you been at MMA? I've been at MMA since February 2012, so six years.

What is your favorite thing about MMA? There are so many good things to talk about. I love that the children are happy, feel safe and love the school. I love it that (most) of the children are engaged in their education and have a great relationship with their teachers and the school. I love it that as teachers we have a certain autonomy to teach to our own individuality. I love it that there is such a good relationship between the teachers and that we are so invested in the school and the education of the children.

What is your favorite food? Hmm... that's a tricky one, as there are so many wonderful dishes out there. From England, I guess my favorite foods are: fish and chips and a typical "full English breakfast" (bacon, sausage, fried bread, toast, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and eggs). I lived in Japan, so there are some great Japanese dishes as well, mainly sushi and miso soup. I spent some time in Spain as well and just the wonderful way they cook fish and seafood, just with some simple ingredients of garlic and red chili peppers.

What is your favorite color? I always used to say blue, but I like the earthy colors of green and brown as well.

What is your favorite movie? Another tricky question. I guess the movies I've watched most are: The Princess Bride; Guardians of the Galaxy part 1, Cinema Paradisio (wonderful Italian movie)...

What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I was really shy as a child growing up and got bullied quite badly at school. I've lived in and visited 32 countries.
