The History Behind Valentine's Day

The celebration of Valentines day origins from the Roman Holiday, Lupercalia, where they sacrificed a goat and dog but dates back to the 5th century when Saint Valentine was killed for being in love with his jailor's daughter. The history of giving your loved ones flowers for Valentine’s Day comes from the old-fashioned custom of sending floral bouquets to pass on a non verbal message because each flower had a specific meaning attached to it.

Economic Impact

In 2014, Valentine's Day is estimated to contribute around $17.3 billion to the economy, according to the National Retail Federation. The average american client is men. 75% of flowers are bought by men the week before valentines day. However, 14% of women buy flowers for themselves.
