Principal's Weekly Update
Term 3 Week 3
RAISE Goal: to make an effort to include someone new in your activity at break times
Te reo phrase of the week: Kia ngawari o ringa (Gentle hands)
Kia ora,
A fine and settled period of weather has enabled us to get outside and make the most of our opportunities. On Monday Sarah Brittain took the running group to Lake Rotokare and Thursday saw the enviro group head down to McDonald’s Glen to set up pest control traps. We also had a number of sports practises going on throughout the week. I would just like to thank Amanda Sherman, Gemma Adams, Angela Burke, Emma Mulliss, Megan Horgan, Sarah and Matt Brittain, Piri Madams, and Garth Te Waaka. All of these parents have been involved in coaching either netball, basketball, running, or football. Your support and hard work is very much appreciated and without it we wouldn’t be able to offer our students the fantastic sporting opportunities that are currently available to them.
Fitness Course
It is so wonderful to see our fitness course back to full strength again. The climbing ropes have been replaced and the cargo net repaired. A huge thanks to Ross and the crew from Ballance for their hard work in making this happen.
Enrolment Scheme Update
Matapu School is currently conducting formal consultation about our proposed Enrolment Scheme which was advertised in the Taranaki Star on Thursday 23rd July. If you have any submissions about the proposal please forward them to zone@matapu.school.nz by Thursday 3rd September. A copy of the proposed scheme may be viewed at the school office.

Be part of the election team
Hiring is underway for the 2020 General Election with people needed to fill over 25,000 roles.
"This is an opportunity to be part of the election team and help voters have their say at the 19 September election and referendums,” says Chief Electoral Officer, Alicia Wright.
A variety of roles are available including working in voting places and counting votes. The work can last from one day to a couple of months over the election period.
“They are all paid roles and we’ll provide the training and support you need to do a good job,” says Alicia Wright.
“Voting places are run by people who live in the area, so it’s a great way to get involved in your community.”
