What's The Matter?
A fun science class where its all about the Matter...
What is Matter?
- Matter is everything around you, it is anything that has Mass and Volume (occupies Space)
Objects and substances can be classified by their physical and chemical properties.
- Mass is the amount of matter (or "stuff") in an object.
- Weight, on the other hand, is the measure of force of attractions (gravitational force between an object and Earth)
Properties of Matter
- Solids, Liquids and Gases

States of Matter
SOLID
LIQUID
Liquids, like water, oil and soda, shift to fit inside the container they’re in. If you look at them under a microscope, you’ll see that they have particles that are close together, but have no rhyme or reason. The molecules move around.

Ready to Experiment with Matter? Try this!
For this activity you will need the following items:
1. Baking Soda
2. Vinegar
3. 20 oz Pop Bottle (empty)
4. Spoon
5. Funnel
6. Balloon
7. Clothes Pin
Directions:
1. Fill the balloon with 2 spoon fulls of baking soda (Use the funnel to get the baking soda into the balloon)
2. Clamp the end of the balloon with the clothes pin so the baking soda does not pour out
3. Fill the pop bottle about 1/3 of the way full with vinegar
4. Put the sealed balloon on top of the bottle
5. Stand the balloon up, Remove the clothes pin and shake the baking soda into the bottle
6. Once all the baking soda is in the bottle let go, stand back and watch
