Summer Reading Information
Reading Rocks!
Students may choose to read any books as long as they are on their Lexile range (reading level); however, a list of suggested titles is provided for guidance. Your child’s school will ensure each student knows his or her Lexile level. To determine the Lexile of books, go to http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/. You also may download the Book Wizard app. This link can be found at http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizardmobile/. In addition to finding the Lexile levels of books, it will also suggest appropriate titles within that range. Students can also use the Find a Book Georgia resource to find books on their Lexile reading level. This link can be found at https://www.lexile.com/fab/ga/.
Suggested summer reading goals based on grade levels are:
- K-1st Grade students: 10 Books (5 on Lexile; 5 student choice regardless of Lexile)
- 2nd Grade Students: 12 Books (6 on Lexile; 6 student choice regardless of Lexile)
- 3rd Grade Students: 12 books, at least 2 of them – chapter books (6 on Lexile; 6 student choice regardless of Lexile – at least one of the chapter books has to be on Lexile)
