Absence Reminders

Please call the office for all student absences! 970-824-3287

Regular attendance is an important indicator of school success. Research has shown that attendance problems correlate directly to achievement problems and are associated with lack of preparation to enter the work force.

“The good news of (a recent) report is that being in school leads to succeeding in school. Achievement, especially in math, is very sensitive to attendance, and absence of even two weeks during one school year matters.”

If your student is going to be absent, please contact the office and notify the secretary. If your students does go to the doctor's office due to illness, be sure to get a doctor's note to bring to the front office.

Thank you!

MCSD DigiParent iPad Nights

The iPad can be an incredible learning tool. Its light weight form factor, touch screen, long battery life, and ever-growing list of interactive apps and digital books make the iPad extremely functional and purposeful as a personal learning device. We believe it is currently the best technology tool for engaging students in their learning, for providing access anytime/anywhere to student work, and for connecting them to the resources they need for research, project creation, and class presentations. It is also an ideal tool for communicating with teachers and their peers.

While all of these benefits are readily apparent to us as educators, we recognize the iPad may also present challenges. Join our 3 part Parent iPad Nights to get tips on how to parent in the digital age and learn more about the possibilities of technology for students and parents.

Counselor's Corner - Lisa Peterson - Sandrock Elementary Counselor

Recently during our Second Step time, we have continued our Life Skills classes focusing on self-knowledge and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on how to respect self and others. Students were able to list four examples of what they like about themselves to help develop a positive attitude towards self. We then moved onto displaying appropriate manners in school and in the community, identifying effective coping skills, and understanding the need for self-control.

We have also identified ways to make friends by being cooperative in groups, respecting differences, and appreciating diversity.

Under construction is my website located on the Moffat County School web page: Lisa Peterson, Counselor Webpage

I will be adding pictures of our school community projects, counseling standards, and links to videos and books used in our Life Skills classes. Please let me know if there is something you would like to see on the website.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please call or email me.

Thank you!
