CAREER EXPLORATION

Big picture

"What will you do when you graduate?" OR "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

The closer you get to the end of high school, the more you hear these questions.

Are you feeling like you don't have a clue about what you want to do?

Feeling uninspired by ideas of a career path?

Or do you want some assurance you are CHOOSING RIGHT CAREER?

Read on for some advice to help.

Visit our NEW CAREER EXPLORATION PAGE for more inspiration:

http://www.nuamescounseling.com/career-exploration.html

FIRST: LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF

Go to our Career Exploration page and explore your personality by taking some of the "Aptitude Tests" on this page.

We all have things that we naturally gravitate towards. Maybe you love Math and Science. Maybe you love writing. Maybe you love the Arts. Maybe you love working with computers. Notice the things that come easy to you and that you have a natural aptitude for.

What did you learn about yourself by doing the APTITUDE TESTS? Are there any career that keeps popping up over and over? Were there any "aha!" moments as you read about your results?

THEN: LEARN ABOUT SPECIFIC CAREERS

OR visit the direct LINK to peruse individual careers

This link will tell you all about what specific career fields pay, how to get into the job, what certifications or degrees are required, and lots more info!

TIP: Look at the "Similar Occupations" tab to see other career options

Or go to the direct LINK to see some options.

Choose a few careers that you are considering and watch a short video about the pathway to get into those careers.

TIP: Occupational Outlook Handbook also has some videos to explore!

OR visit direct LINK to look up the jobs that are showing a lot of promise in Utah.

TIP: You want to make sure to pick a job that will have growth in the future.

Don't pick a career that is dying out!

DO YOU KNOW WHAT CAREERS ARE HIRING IN UTAH?

HOT JOBS!!

  1. Information Technology (Software Developer, Software Engineer, Computer Support Specialist, Network Engineer...)
  2. Finance/Banking (Compliance Officer, IT/Cybersecurity, Lending...)
  3. Construction (Concrete/Masonry, Heavy Equipment Operator, Plumbing/HVAC, Electrician)
  4. Health Care (Registered Nurse, CNA, Medical Secretary, Health Tech...)
  5. Manufacturing (Machining, Software Developer, Composites...)

Remember to choose a CAREER and not just a job!

When thinking about your DREAM JOB, remember...

The heavens probably won't sing when you think about your perfect career. After all, a career is still work. Most of us would probably rather be doing something fun than working, right? Don't put so much pressure on yourself to feel excited about a career. Choosing something that fits your personality is a good start.
