In Case You Missed It:
I want to tell you all again how proud I am of everyone of you, our children, and families for the hard work last year. As educators we know that performance grades do not evaluate all that a school does for their children and the community. We will continue to work hard together to support and grow our children throughout this school year. #keepreaching #keeprising
Our fall PTSO/Meet the Coaches/AVID Family Night week well on Thursday evening. We had a huge turnout! The cheerleaders sold out of pizza BEFORE the event even started!! I appreciate our Athletic Director, Tommy Harrington and Stallion staff that are coaches, DJ Clemmons, Ashley Parker, Brianna Simmons, Jake Stevens, Miranda Colwell, and Christina Reed, for being there to get the season off on the right foot with sharing expectations, schedules, and answering parent questions. I am also thankful to AVID Site Team members, Vincent Pienaar, Nejla deLambert, Cindy Quiggle, Kevin Degon, and Binaca DiMarcello for doing basically the same thing with our AVID elective parents; sharing expectations, schedules, and answering parent questions about AVID. They held mini sessions on a rotation about tutorials, binders, notes, agendas, and explained the timeline and benefits of becoming a National Demonstration School. As we know, communication and keeping each other, our families, and community in the loop at all times is one of the things that set us apart and help to ensure we are ALL moving in the same direction.
It looks as if we are going to dodge the wrath of Irma. As I am writing this edition of Bits I have the national news on watching with great concern for the entire state of Florida and is beginning to feel the effects. Remember that many Stallions have relatives or know those that will be feeling Irma. This will mean that person (student and adults) will be affected and by the impact of this storm. Please be mindful and supportive over the coming days.
Many thanks for being flexible Thursday and Friday with meeting and not meeting. It looks as if all have started and most have completed their their self assessment and training and orientation piece in NCEES. I will be emailing those that do not have green check marks on Monday and asking you to go back in finish the task. If you don't remember seeing the green check mark, please go back in and recheck :)
Thank you to our bus drivers for getting in their updated routes and seating charts to Jamie. A shout out goes to Jessica Stone and Nathan Faulk for getting these in on time! We also appreciate teachers turning in the sub folders to Jamie and Evan. There is a lot of "stuff" that has to be completed in the beginning of the year. Please know that all the "stuff" is necessary to ensure we are in compliance and/or prepared for emergency situations.
I went wandering the building on Wednesday evening taking pictures in classrooms of the amazing ways you have highlighted colleges and inspired your students. It made my heart smile! Please make sure that BEFORE leaving on Friday, September 15, you have examples of student thinking (rigorous work) throughout all our hallways. ALL teachers are responsible for this task!
Nick Baker and Tommy Harrington took the 8th grade boys from their gym class on Friday to Tramway Elementary to work with the third grade on how to play dodge ball. This is what these elementary students will be earning to participate in for their 1st quarter AR reward. Our Admin Team received an email this weekend sharing how well these boys represented our school and lead the 3rd graders. I'm so proud!
