A message from Mr. Lucita

School has started, and everyone crushed Summer Band!! The students' work ethic and attitude were outstanding, and we want to see that drive continue.

This is our first full week of school, and let’s make it great! I know there are still several items we are working through involving schedules, but please be patient and we will do our best to get all schedules corrected.

Master Classes start this week for Wind Ensemble and will be held during first period. Brass Master Classes will be Tuesday and Woodwind Master Classes will be Wednesday. We are working to fill all master class teacher positions as many of our summer band staff have started school as well.

Private Lessons!!! Let’s get everyone enrolled in Private Lessons! There is nothing like that one-on-one instruction from a master musician on your specific instrument. If you have not gotten a private lesson form, please pick one up from Mrs. Mendez. If you are interested in private lessons and haven’t already done so, turn your paperwork in ASAP! Instructors are building their schedules now.

We have our first football game this week!! We will be playing against Crockett HS at Burger Stadium in Austin. An email was sent to all band parents that contained a private link to purchase tickets NOW! Ticket sales open to the general public on Tuesday morning. If you did not receive that email, please update your contact information in Charms. We will send out a detailed schedule this week with times and a link to a map for driving directions! We will also lock in our bus monitors/chaperones this week.

If you are a parent and have not signed up for the parent remind, please do so. This is where we will post information in real-time as we leave the stadiums, travel throughout the marching season or any sudden changes or adjustments. Follow the link below to enroll in the Jag Band Parent Remind.

This week's game is a Thursday night game, and everyone will attend school on Friday. We don’t get to sleep in on Friday mornings after Thursday night games! It is also important to note that this week we have practice Thursday morning 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. and Friday evening 5 - 7 p.m. We are going to see how the first morning practice goes this week and determine if we need to start and finish a little earlier. This practice also involves our Johnson HS Rosettes as this is the first year the band is playing their music for their performance. Remember that any time we have a Thursday night game we will flip our Thursday and Friday practice schedule!

This week we will be distributing the freshman summer uniforms and supplies. If you are a returning member and needed to purchase or buy replacement parts, those have been ordered, received and distributed already. The New Member equipment will be passed out this week! Please make sure you have black socks for the game on Thursday!

Again, we can not share how important it is that everyone looks at the calendar as our season is about to get very busy!! I do believe there will be a calendar upgrade coming soon to help with ease of viewing and syncing. We want to make sure no one is surprised by a date or event and that we have every student and parent in attendance! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send us an email or to contact the band hall!

Let’s have an awesome week! Remember “It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!”

Prop and Front Line Crew Update

Please know that the full show will not be put on the field until 9/24. If you are interested in volunteering at games and competitions, sign ups will be sent out after a few weeks. Make sure you have submitted your interest via the committee interest form below. Sylvia and MB Kidd are the chairs for the Prop Crew and Angela Perry is the chair of the Front Line Crew. Both will be in contact with volunteers soon.

What do i need to know this week?

Tickets for Thursday's Football Game in Austin

Click here to purchase tickets for Thursday's football game vs. Austin Crockett high school at Burger Stadium in Austin. Tickets go on sale soon to the general public, and the stadium is limiting capacity to 25%. NO tickets will be sold at the stadium that night.

Summer Uniforms

Summer uniforms will be distributed to all new members this week and worn for Thursday's game. Please make sure your student has black socks and a black belt.

Bus Chaperones and Other Volunteers Needed!

Football Season is right around the corner and that means Half-Time Show, and we need your help! Bus Chaperones are parents who ride on the bus to and from the games. Band Aids (medical knowledge not required) are parents who sit near the kids in the stands and help as needed. We need parents to help sell Jag Swag at home during the games. Photographers take photos of our amazing band in action while in the stands and on the field.

Hemming Bibbers Day

We are looking for volunteers with some sewing experience to sew hems and stirrups on the bibbers (pants). We will be at the band hall Saturday, August 28, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. We will have some sewing machines, but if you have one you can bring that would be great!

Friends & Family Sponsorship Band Trailer Student Name Decal

Those Friends and Families who commit to the $200 sponsorship level have the opportunity to add their student's name and graduation year to the back of the Johnson Jaguar Band Trailer. The deadline to add your student's name/graduation year to the back of the band trailer for this year is Thursday, September 2. Any sponsorships with this option received after that date will be added for the 2022 - 23 year.
