A Brief Message from your Principal, Katie Johnson

Hello Cougar Families,

On behalf of our Cougar Staff, thank you! Your unwavering support is much appreciated, and we are grateful for you. As a reminder, there is no school next week. I hope we are all able to take time to be present with our families and show our gratitude for one another. Take time to notice the good things and appreciate them, maybe even take time to express your gratitude to yourself or someone else.

Take care of yourselves and each other!

Katie Johnson

Meet our 2nd Grade Team

Kate Howard

My name is Kate Howard, and I am so proud to be part of the amazing second grade team again this year. This is my 14th year teaching, and my 6th year at Cottonwood Creek. I have always taught first and second graders. I feel so lucky to be part of such a strong, supportive community like the one we have here at Cottonwood. When I’m not in “teacher mode”, I am busy at home chasing around my 5 year old and 2.5 year old twins. There is certainly never a dull (or quiet) moment in the Howard household!

Kathy Jansen

Hello! My name is Kathy Jansen and I’m a second-grade teacher. This is my fourteenth year teaching and my sixth year at Cottonwood. Previously, I taught in a small district in Los Angeles, CA for nine years. I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio, where the majority of my family still resides. My husband and I live in Centennial with our dog. When I’m not teaching, you can find me spending time with my husband, reading, doing puzzles, cooking, traveling, and learning new things. I’m so grateful to be a part of such a strong, supportive community like Cottonwood!

Natalie Morris

Hello! My name is Natalie Morris. This is my 17th year teaching at Cottonwood Creek. I taught third grade for 4 years before taking 3 years off to be home with my children. When I came back, there was an opening in second grade, and that is where I have been ever since! When I’m not at school, I’m busy trying to keep up with my three teenagers. Riley is 17 and a senior at Cherry Creek, and Hadley and Jack are my 15-year-old sophomores. We also have three dogs named Kali, Smudge, and Bridger who keep us on our toes. I am so lucky to be a part of this wonderful Cottonwood Creek community!

Royce Wiersma

Hi, my name is Royce Wiersma, one of the 2nd grade teachers at Cottonwood. This is my 15th year of teaching and my 11th year here at Cottonwood. I am a graduate of University of Wisconsin - River Falls. I made the move to Colorado on a whim 14 years ago and have never looked back. My wife and I have two amazing dogs. When I’m not in teacher mode you can probably guess that I’m out golfing or watching Wisconsin sport teams. I am so happy to be here at Cottonwood.
