SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM
Breakfast & Lunch will be available starting June 13th. Breakfast will be served from 7:15 till 10:30 am and Lunch will be available from 11:00 till 1:15, Monday through Thursday. Exception, no Meals on Monday, July 4th.
All meals will need to be eaten on-site, sorry government rules for this summer. We will be putting up signs outside over the next few days. Meals are available at all schools, students may go to the school closest to their homes to eat. All meals served will be on the same menu at all locations.
Parents are welcome to bring any child, children of any age, regardless if they are the child's parent or not. Meals are for children only, if an adult would like to purchase a meal, the cost for a breakfast would be $2.80 and $5.15 for a lunch. Again, sorry, government-funded programming.
SUMMER SCHOOL CONTINUES
Summer school has had a terrific turn out this summer with many students participating and recovering credits. We are in the final week of session #1. Session #2 will run from July 18th--August 11th. There is space for additional high school students to join session #2 in order to recover any lost credit. Summer school runs Monday -Thursday from 8-12 here at the high school. Both breakfast and lunch are provided. Transportation is also provided for students who may need it. Students must attend face to face in order to participate. FRESHMEN ORIENTATION DAY
Dear Freshman Parent/Guardian,
Happy Summer! I hope that this communication finds you and your family safe and enjoying summer break. I am reaching out to make you and your incoming Freshman aware of our agenda for the 22-23 Freshmen Orientation Day!
Originally, it was communicated that the Freshmen Orientation Day was scheduled for August 22nd. However, due to presenter availability, the date has been changed to:
Tuesday, August 23rd from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM–FRESHMEN ORIENTATION DAY AT WHS
The purpose of this day is to prepare your child for and equip him/her with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful first year at the high school. Your child will be assigned and work with a small group of WHS Senior mentors on this day and throughout the course of the school year, as well.
The agenda for the day is outlined below:
10:45-11:00 AM Student Drop Off to the Cafeteria (email Ms. Powers if bus transportation is needed to school)
11:00-11:30 AM Student Check-In, Get Name Tag, Pick Up Class of 2026 T-Shirt; Lunch also provided in the cafeteria.
11:30-12:00 PM Class Assembly in the Cafeteria.
12:00-5:00 PM students will participate in the following rotations in small groups and participate in games and activities with their Senior mentors:
Technology Expectations and the Use of CANVAS
Michigan Merit Curriculum, Graduation Plans, and the Credit System
Expectations of the Student Handbook
Van Buren Technology Center and Dual Enrollment Opportunities
Early Middle College and Berrien County Career Technical Education Opportunities
Pick Up a Class Schedule, Try out a Locker, Tour the Building, Learn how to get Breakfast and Lunch
Meet with Student Athletes and Learn about the Clubs and Sports available at WHS.
5:00-6:00 PM Parents Arrive; Dinner provided for parents and freshmen, scavenger hunt for students and raffle prize drawing for attendees
6:00-7:00 PM Parent/Student Assembly in the Auditorium with Craig Tornquist
7:00-7:15 PM Chromebook and Charger Pick Up before leaving
It is our hope that all incoming freshmen will be able to participate in this day’s events. If your child needs transportation to school, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call at 269.463.0734. If your child is not able to participate in this event, he/she will pick up his/her materials at our annual Open House on August 24th between 4-6 PM. An additional Parent Orientation presentation to the high school for parents will also be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 6 PM in the high school media center if you missed it in May. WPS STAFF ENJOYS END-OF-THE-SCHOOL-YEAR COOKOUT
The staff at Watervliet Public Schools was treated to a Hawaiian-themed cookout last week, complete with grilled barbecued pineapple skewers and virgin Piña Coladas. Many thanks to the Board of Education members and the administrators who cooked and served the food, and special thanks to Deah Muth who organized the event.
