Student Academic Growth Over the Several Months
A question that has been asked is how have our students done over the past year as we are now approaching the second year “anniversary” of the pandemic closing schools in Millard. There are a lot of measurements to use to measure academic growth but the most consistent one is our MAP testing.
The table below shows a comparison between Abbott and the average MPS elementary school from last school year and the current school year of the fall tests. The first set of four columns shows our average percentile achievement for all grades from spring to fall. The second set of four columns shows the percentile achievement from spring to fall of the district. Typically over the summer students lose some achievement as the fall tests are given soon after school begins and kids are on summer break.
A comparison can be made between Abbott students from spring 2021 to fall 2021 and the district. Numbers are percentiles, not percentages. As an example, Abbott students outperformed 76% of the students that took the same test at the same time. The vertical axis .0 to .8 means zero percentile up to the 99th percentile.
Also, a very important point, it’s not all the same students that we’re comparing. Last year’s fifth graders are now sixth graders, as an example.
We are thankful for the Foundation's support of our district and school.
