Expect your Teen to be Conscientious, not Perfect
Expect your teen to be conscientious, not perfect - https://tpitip.com/?33ca18608
Research shows that when parents have high expectations for their students, the students will rise to meet them. But expectations should also be realistic. If they are too high, teens may get so anxious that they view small mistakes as failures. To avoid going overboard, pay more attention to effort and progress than results. Remind your teen that mistakes are opportunities to learn, and explain how you fix and learn from your own errors.
2023 Student Voice Summit
On Saturday, April 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will host a Student Voice Summit, “Empowering Student Voice in GCPS.” 2023_SAC Summit_flyer_4.pdf
The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is inviting GCPS middle and high school students to the Student Summit to fuel the student voice movement in GCPS. Members of the advisory council have co-designed an agenda to meet the needs students currently face in our county and empower them to use their voice to impact the culture within their schools positively.
Students will have the opportunity to unpack their shared educational experiences through a listening session with our Superintendent, Dr. Calvin J. Watts, hear from celebrated national keynote speakers on two important topics chosen by the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, and connect with local school and county supports to help them succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally in their educational career.
The Student Voice Summit will be hosted at Sugar Hill Church in Sugar Hill. Parents and caregivers are invited to attend; transportation is available for students. There is no charge to attend; space is limited. Registration closes on March 31 for those wanting to attend in person. A virtual option is available for those that choose, or if all seats reach capacity, virtual registration closes on April 7.

The GCPS Book Mobile brings the library to our students during the summer! This decked-out school bus travels to different apartment complexes and neighborhoods each week throughout the summer and helps prevent the "summer slide" by providing kids with high-quality, diverse books.
The annual Book Mobile 5K is the only fundraiser that contributes to this cause. This year, the 5K is on Saturday, May 6th at 8:00 am at the ISC. Early-bird registration is $25 for the 5K and $18 for the Fun Run. Groups of 4 get the family discount and pay only $90. (Everyone under 18 receives a FREE BOOK to add to their home library!)
If you can't make it on race day, you can also choose to do the virtual 5K to receive your t-shirt in the mail, or, just donate to the cause! (A $100 donation gets your name added to the back of the t-shirt!)
Don't forget to mention McClure Health Science High School when you register! The school with the most registrations gets a FREE visit from the Book Mobile!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email Laura Sly at laura.sly@gcpsk12.org.
