EVHS Athletics Update 12.18.20
Important Winter Sports Update
Important Information for All Winter Sport Athletes and Families
Below you will find details on the following:
- The MSHSL "Model" that shares all projected/tentative season dates if competitions are allowed to resume using the MSHSL plan.
- Winter Registration Information
- Statement from MSHSL regarding Winter Sports
-The District 196 Plans and specifics for Health and Safety
In the days and weeks ahead we will receive confirmation of what the first allowable competition dates will be officially (depending on approval from the Governor and MSHSL), along with more information about what the post-season weeks may look like from the MSHSL Staff. We will also receive any changes to the recommended safety protocols. So while there are still lots of unknowns, I want to share with you our TENTATIVE plan.
We will continue to take our direction from Governor Walz’s office and his executive orders, the CDC and Minnesota Department of Health, as well as our District 196 Administration and the Minnesota State High School League on what this all means for us and our programs, tournaments, practices, competitions, etc.
One important detail for all Winter Sport Athletes and Families to take care of if they have not already: Get registered! Now that we know the start date, please make sure to register on MyPaymentsPlus BEFORE 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22nd. The EVHS Athletic Office will be closed December 23-January 3, so if you have any registration needs, we will not be able to assist until January 4th. Keep in mind that no student is allowed to participate at an in-person practice or tryout without being registered. If, for any reason, more than half of the season does not happen, the district will refund your payment. The information on physicals and MyPaymentsPlus is in the next section. Please contact joan.beckmann@district196.org with questions.
Thank you
Matt Percival
Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Athletics

MSHSL Statement on Winter Sports
The Minnesota State High School League has sent out the following statement in response to Governor Walz's message on December 16th, 2020 regarding re-opening of Winter Sports practices on Monday, January 4th.
District 196 Plans for Health and Safety Upon Return to Sports on 1.4.21
All sports will continue to follow all guidance and recommendations from Governor Walz’s office and his executive orders, the CDC and Minnesota Department of Health as well as our District 196 Administration and the Minnesota State High School League. Here are a few items to be aware of:
#1 The MSHSL has created very specific requirements and recommendations for each sport to help provide the safest environment possible in a pandemic situation. In addition, the South Suburban Conference has established protocols to provide consistency from one location to another as much as possible.
#2 District 196 will continue to use the guidance provided by the Governor and the MSHSL to determine what will be allowed on a sport by sport basis. The SSC Conference and District 196 may implement more restrictive requirements as needed to try and assist in providing the safest experience possible.
#3 Based on Recommendations from both the Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Education, District 196 will continue to require a minimum 14 day Quarantine for all identified close contact exposures to a lab confirmed, positive case even though there has been some information shared regarding possible exceptions.
#4 The only exception for a student or staff member not needing to quarantine after a confirmed close contact exposure would be if they have had a lab confirmed, positive case within the last 90 days that has previously been reported to EVHS school nurse, Melissa Persigehl. In addition, written confirmation of that lab confirmed, positive result must also be shared with Nurse Persigehl. If you have not previously shared results of a positve test with Nurse Persigehl, please do so immediately so it can be documented. Her email is melissa.persigehl@district196.org and her phone number is 952-431-8923.
#5 All athletes who have tested positive are recommended to contact TCO Athletic Trainer, Tricia Dorian, and notify her of the positive result. Her email is patriciawankum@tcomn.com and her phone number is 816-853-5179. Due to HIPAA Privacy laws as well as a delay in some communication from MDH with the high volume of COVID cases she is not always aware of positive cases unless an athlete or their parent/guardian reaches out. Tricia will then work with the family to discuss the MSHSL Sport Medicine Advisory Committee's Graduated Return to Play Protocols. These protocols are highly recommended and not required for participation, but are definitely encouraged to be sure athletes are ready to return after being done with isolation for COVID. The complete MSHSL Return to Play Protocols are listed below.
