First Day of School
Tuesday, September 3rd will be a full day (8:41 AM – 3:45 PM). We ask that Kindergartners bring their lunch this week until Friday, September 6th and we help our newest learner to adjust to the cafeteria experience.
On the first day of school, drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m. Families may escort students into the building and wait with your student(s) in the Gym or Multi-purpose room on the first day only. For the safety of our students, once teachers arrive to take students to the classroom, we ask that you give your hugs and high fives and allow the teacher to escort the students to the classrooms.
After the first day of school, please plan to say your goodbyes at the door by giving your child a hug and high five!

Carpool Lane Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please see the carpool lane arrival and dismissal procedures below. For more detailed information about other arrival and dismissal procedures, please see the attached information.
Morning Arrival:
- Please pull your car all the way forward to the end of the loop, come to a complete stop, and allow students to exit the vehicle. Pulling all the way forward will help to alleviate the back up onto Silver Springs Drive, particularly on the days that it is cold, rainy, or snowy.
- Have your child(ren) kissed and ready to exit the vehicle when you reach the unloading zone. Please stay in your car. Only children should exit the vehicle. Students should only exit the vehicle on the passenger side.
- The second bell (tardy) rings at 8:46 a.m. and all doors will be locked. If you arrive after this time, you must park your car and sign your child(ren) into school at the front office.
Afternoon Dismissal:
- Please pull your car all the way forward to the end of the loop, come to a complete stop, and allow students to get into the vehicle. Pulling all the way forward will help to alleviate the back up onto Silver Springs Drive, particularly on the days that it is cold, snowy, or rainy.
- Display your Family Name Card on the right side of your dashboard for easy recognition.
- Pick up your child(ren) in the designated loading zone only.
- Do not exit your vehicle to load your child(ren) as these are moving loading zones only.
Here's to a safe and seamless arrival and dismissal.

PTA Welcome Back Coffee -First General PTA Meeting Tuesday, September 3rd
Welcome back Silver Springs Families…
Please join us for our first PTA general meeting on the 1st day of school…September 3rd at 9 AM in the Rondelle (behind the media center). We look forward to greeting familiar faces and meeting many new faces.
Look for TWO important forms in your child’s Monday (9/9) envelope.
1. Invest In Your Child
- This is our MAIN fundraising campaign for the year. We encourage all families to give what they can to help ensure the PTA can provide all the things we do to benefit all our students, teachers, and school.
2. PTA Membership
- We would like all our families and teachers to join the Silver Springs PTA to show support. Membership gives you voting rights at our meetings and other benefits. The fee for PTA membership mainly covers the dues we pay to the state.
- No obligations when you join the PTA.
Few helpful tips from the PTA-
Please make checks payable to Silver Springs PTA
Each activity needs a separate check for accounting purposes
Staple, paper clip, or put PTA forms in an envelope or baggie
Carefully read deadlines and return forms early
We hope to have a sportingly good year with the help of our wonderful families at Silver Springs.
Let’s GO for the GOLD…Team Silver Springs PTA

The Power of Drawing - Young Rembrandts
Train your brain to see with "The Power of Drawing!"
Learning to see and create images is recognized as essential to a child’s development of critical, cognitive brain-training skills. By deconstructing and reconstructing images using a variety of engaging and relevant subjects, students experience increased levels of mastery and confidence while having tons of fun! No lesson is ever repeated.
Fall is in full swing at Young Rembrandts, as we present drawing lessons that encompass a fascinating world of color, pattern, and design. Students will strengthen their visual skills as they render a detailed gumball machine. Then, building upon the layers of a sandwich, they will make a mouth watering composition! We become a part of the ancient Egyptian culture, creating a pharaoh’s decorative headdress. Then a fun but unique still life of a video game will be rendered, showing off its accessories. A powerful illustration celebrating the fall season will introduce our artists to the valuable relationship of colors. Every child can learn exciting and empowering new visual skills that benefit them for life!
Please see flyer below for more information!

Silver Springs 2nd Grade Brownie Troop 40406
Welcome! We are Silver Springs Elementary 2nd Grade Brownie Troop 40406 and we are hoping you are interested in joining our troop!
Please see the flyer below for more information!
Robotics for 4th and 5th Graders
Dear Silver Springs Parents,
Please sign up for the FIRST LEGO League (FLL)for 4th and 5th Graders.
FLL is based on LEGO Mindstorm EV3. The coding for LEGO Mindstorm requires critical thinking to solve real world challenges. While it is icon based like the WeDo (from the Jr teams from last year), it is more powerful. (Don't worry, the kids already know how this works!).
Please let us know if you are interested, so we can order the necessary equipment.
The FLL Team has a competition element, and the competitions start in Mid November. Preparation for the competition will dictate how often the FLL Teams will meet. We are planning to start on September-10 and meet every Tuesday 6-8pm. The FLL Team will attend the Expo in December, as well.
The Theme this year for FLL is:
The cost is $80 fee per student to participate this year.
Each Team needs 2 coaches!!!!!!
To be a coach, you need to commit to our Tuesday schedule and you need to help your team with coding and mentoring the kids. Mindstorms is not text-based program language, so don't worry.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Robotics for Kindergarten - 3rd Grade Students
Dear Silver Springs Parents,
We are also offering this school year the Robotics FLL Jr. program for K-3rd grades.
The Theme this year for FLLJr is BOOMTOWN BUILDSM, https://info.firstinspires.org/boomtown-build
This program is based on LEGO WeDo 2.0 and is designed for kids from Kindergarten to 3rd Grade. The kids will build a "Challenge" each week. There are different skills for different grade levels and the teams will be organized, as much as possible, by grade level.
We will meet Tuesdays from 6-7pm at Silver Springs tentatively from September-16 to the first week of December. (There will be no meeting on Nov-05.) At the end of the season, the students will join an EXPO to show off their work. The EXPOs are here in the area in Northville, Novi, Livonia, etc.
Last year we had 7 teams, each with 5-6 kids. The feedback from the coaches was to get the team size down to 4-5 kids per team and to join an EXPO at the beginning of December and not too close to the holidays.
The cost will be $65 for returning students (because they can reuse the WeDo) and $80 for new students.
Because of the smaller team sizes, we also need more coaches!!!!!! So please consider volunteering as a coach. It's fun to build and explore with your child and teammates with the Lego Challenge set. If you can follow a LEGO instruction and you can load an app on Chromebook or tablet, you can coach.!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun with your child and try something new.
