Staff Newsletter - Week of 10/22/18
Open Enrollment - Open Enrollment has begun and ends November 2! Please complete both your SHBP and GCPS enrollment choices. Please see Mauri if you have any questions.
Parent Conference/Early Release - Please review the reminders below. Make sure that you send a message on class dojo to remind parents that students will be dismissed early on Oct. 24/25.
Vote! This is our civic duty! The last day to register to vote is October 9. Early voting begins October 15 through November 2.
Halloween themed activities - Please remember that there are families and parents who have strong views about Halloween, either for or against it. As you provided fun activities for the students, please make sure the activities are related to the AKS and do not present any material that could be considered offensive to the students and their families.
If you reside in Gwinnett County, there is a G.O. Bond Referendum on the ballot that would benefit all GCPS schools. Please read the attached document to learn more about this Bond Referendum.
Have an awesome week of learning!

Gallup Employee Engagement Survey
Every school and department in the district will be participating in the following survey. It is a very brief survey that is taken every year to determine the level of employee engagement at each school.
What: SY 2018-19 Administration of the Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement Survey
When: October 15 - October 29, 2018
Who: ALL Certified and Classified GCPS Employees
You will receive and email on October 15 from Gallup with the 12 question survey attached. Please make sure that you participate in the survey. The results are VERY important! The information will be reviewed with all principals in December. I will share the results with you once I receive them.
A SPECIAL treat will be provided to the first two grade levels who complete the survey. Grade chairs, please email me when everyone on your grade level has taken the survey.
SHOUT OUTS!
Jennifer Bower - for leading her first Math Boot Camp session. AWESOME work Jennifer!
Nancy Butler - for taking Mr. Wilbanks charge seriously: There are two types of people in the district - those who teach and those who support those who teach. Thanks for helping a few teachers recover grades! You helped lower their stress level and workload!
Lisa Mills and Ka'li Borders - for figuring out this Lexia Learning stuff! The students are ready to begin their placement tests because of their hard work.
If you have any shout outs to share, please send them to me by Friday of each week.

Lexia Learning Update
Please note that the auto-placement only looks at two domains to determine a student's placement in Core5: word identification and comprehension skills. This is not an assessment as you might know assessments, but a placement activity.
Auto Placement Test information:
Who will take the auto placement test? All students, k-5
When: In technology/media specials within the next 2 weeks (kdg. may need to provide Deanna with some support)
How will we use this data: To identify the levels of performance for our students in EIP, Tier 2, and a few others who are struggling to master the content. Once identified, these students will be required to be on Lexia for 60 minutes per week. This time can occur in the morning, afternoon, during tech/media specials, and/or EIP segments.
Can other students use the program? Yes. You will be able to provide this practice for any student you feel may need additional practice. The students should not be on the program more than 10 minutes each session.
What do you need to do now? Nothing. Deanna and Lisa will begin to assist the students with the auto-placement. Kindergarten teachers - talk with Deanna about how to support her and the students with this task.
Remember! A computer program is NOT a replacement for effective instruction provided by a qualified teacher.
