American Education Week
This week we celebrate American Education Week and in doing so will have a spirit week. Please see the attachments below for details. Also, we are asking families to recognize the hard work and efforts of our amazing staff during this week by encouraging students to show their gratitude (this month's character trait) for our staff members by having students write letters, draw pictures, and any other creative way they can show their gratitude. Don't forget all of our staff members: our homeroom teachers, our special educators, specialists, counselors, secretaries, nurses, paraprofessionals, custodians, and substitute teachers; all of whom are integral in our efforts to create a caring and nurturing atmosphere here. Thank you in advance for your support of our amazing staff!
Sincerely,
Dr. Celotto

The Election Results Are In. . .
Second grade learned about elections. To do so, they had a mock election. They read a book about voting, created their own registration cards, then voted for their favorite animal and food. Students were so excited to take part in elections!

Cradles to Crayons
A note from C2C club president, Neel Sajja, PAHS Senior
Hello. We are the Cradles to Crayons club at Phoenixville Area High School. Our club works with the main branch in Philadelphia to raise clothes, books, money, and school supplies to support impoverished kids in the greater-Philadelphia area. On the days November 21st & 22nd, we would like to set up a box in each school during conferences. We will be promoting our cause and asking people to collect their old clothes and other belongings and drop them in said donation bins during the window of days to be donated to the main organization that we will be visiting Dec. 7th. We believe this will greatly help our clubs’ aspirations and hope you can help us with this!
Second Step: Lesson 8
This week in Second Step: Lesson 8 was delivered on Friday, November 11. See below for information on this unit.
- Emotion Management: Students learn how to identify emotions in themselves and others and apply strategies to manage their emotions.
You’ll receive weekly communications from me to help you reinforce Second Step language, skills, and goals at home. If you have any questions about Second Step Elementary, please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information. Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community!
During this unit your child(ren) will be working on: Click the Grade Level Below!
This week, chat with your child(ren) about:
- Grade 2: Help Yourself Feel Better: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to use positive self-talk to help themselves feel better when they’re upset, disappointed, or worried. Try This at Home: Ask your child what they want to tell themselves when they’re having a tough day. Encourage them to use positive self-talk at home.
- Grade 3: Take a Break: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how, when, and where to take a break in different situations as a way to manage a strong emotion. Try This at Home: Discuss where and how your child can take a break at home. Then ask your child how they could take a break in place, for example, in the car or at the grocery store.
- Grade 4: How to Rethink: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn about questions they can ask to rethink situations and they’ll practice asking these questions using made-up stories. Try This at Home: Ask your child, “What questions could you ask yourself to rethink a situation?” (Questions might include, “What happened?” “Has this ever happened to anyone else?” and “What’s something good that happened?”) Talk about how those questions can help them think differently about a situation.
- Grade 5: Planning for Change: In this week’s lesson, your child will practice breaking down situations that feel big and unmanageable into smaller, more manageable pieces. They will also practice identifying a small change someone could make to manage their strong emotions the next time a situation occurs. Try This at Home: Tell your child about a recurring situation in your life that typically causes you to feel a strong emotion, like stress or anger. Ask your child what you can change to make the situation better, and why they would suggest that change.

Volunteer to Help the Book Fair
The Fall Book Fair Is Coming. . .
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school. The book fair will take place from November 16-18 during the school day on the stage in the gymnasium.
You can also shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. Click on the link below to visit our Book Fair homepage to setup an eWallet and to access the online fair!
Kids and Tech Life Balance
Our second presentation in our Parent Speaker Series is scheduled for November 16th in the PAELC Cafeteria.
The title of this presentation is Kids and the Tech Life Balance—designed to give parents ways to help their kids develop a healthy relationship with technology, and skills to practice self-care.
FREE on-site babysitting will be provided by National Honor Society students. Spanish and Portuguese interpreters will be provided.
Pre-registration is requested.
