October 6, 2017
Many thanks to all who joined us for the Harlem Wizards Game! We had a LARGE time! Yes, we work hard in teaching and we play hard as well. Laughter and fun is good for the heart! Thank you all, volunteers, staff, students and PTO!
I can honestly say that there is no place like home! While I so enjoyed the professional development with EdLeader21 and the school visit, I truly missed our Midway family. It is important, however, to see what others are doing across the country. Our development of performance tasks is right on target! We will continue to grow the learning targets and to deepen critical thinking.
Next week is filled with more opportunities! We have Family Fitness Night, Passport to Fitness, on Tuesday, Oct. 10. If you were not able to join your child for Bring Your Parent to PE Week then this is another opportunity. We also have Moe's Day on October 11.
Note that there are Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, Oct. 12, 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. and also on Friday, Oct. 13, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m (no school for students on this day). Not all parents will fit into this schedule so you may already have had a conference or will have an opportunity to conference shortly after these dates.
I hope you enjoy the weekend! Please read, read, read with our Mustangs!!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling
Principal of Midway Elementary

"National School Lunch Week October 9-13, 2017
This year we will be featuring the 2017 Lexington One Cooks Healthy Recipe Contest Winner, Anna Cully, and her Vegilicious Chili. Not only are we featuring Anna's recipe on the menu in every school across the district, we also want to see who can serve the most of it! By leaving your lunch box at home, and eating in the cafeteria, you can help our school win the highest participation for the week. The school with the highest participation for the week will earn a super fun reward!"
Enter to win a cafeteria makeover!

Calling all football fans! Read Your Way to the Big Game is here! Information about the program and a reading log will be sent home with students.
21 days of Reading Challenge
The number one way you can help your child with their learning is to read at home! The research is there. So I challenge each of you this month to embark on this challenge. 21 days of reading with and/or to your child. Life can get so busy, but taking just a few minutes each day to sit next to your child and read a book will show them how important reading is, but also how important they are.
Sign up here: http://www.readaloud.org/21daychallenge.html
And take pictures! I'll be participating in this challenge both at Midway, reading aloud to classes, and at home with my own little person. Use the #21dayReadAloud and #MES21dayReadAloud
Let's get reading!
