TAMBAYAN INFO TO FOLLOW

Parents and alumni had such fun in the Tambayan Parents' Lounge last week, so we're working on a way to open up social space for the whole community and our students during IP Sundays.

Message to Families

We had a great start last Sunday!

IP is indebted to the many volunteers behind the scenes and teachers who are helping us go remote. Students and teachers found their classrooms. Everyone took part in our traditional IP ceremony during Community Assembly. Parents and alumni met up in the Tambayan to (re)connect. And we kicked off our first IP Virtual Tiangge/Holiday Bazaar.

We'd love to see how the day went for you. Be sure to join the closed IP Facebook Group where you can post pictures of your child(ren) in class or with their class projects. This is a private space for IP members only: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ipbahay/

Online registration is closed. We will continue enrolling students for Binhi, Ilang-Ilang and Rizal. Sampaguita and Bonifacio are at or near capacity. Families who want to join for Lesson 2 should contact Myra directly at myra.liwanag@ipbahay.org.

In the coming weeks you can look forward to music and dance classes, the annual IP parol workshop (special remote version) and IP Virtual Pasko!

We encourage families to reinforce lessons by talking together about what went on in class. Scroll down for Lesson 1 Highlights and info on these coming events:

  • IP CAROLERS REUNION on Friday 11/20, 7-9pm ET, via Zoom
  • IP VIRTUAL TIANGGE/HOLIDAY BAZAAR from 11/15-12/15 on Facebook

Below is a link to the IP calendar for your fridge!

Lesson 1 Highlights

  • We began getting (re)acquainted with one another in each class through games, drawing, and show-and-tell.
  • Binhi learned about and drew the Filipino watawat and sang songs introducing colors, numbers and parts of the body in Filipino.
  • Lower School introduced ourselves in Filipino (Magandang hapon. Ako po si . . . ), learned about the concept of bayanihan, discussed how we belong to many communities, and our favorite games to play with each other. We affirmed that we all belong to the same Filipino community by sharing a special item or drawing from home and why it's important to us.
  • Upper School explored the concepts of connection and community. We examined how we connect with each other at IP, both formally and informally, then proposed ways to recreate the things we miss most in our virtual environment this year. We also imagined our ideal communities, discussed the rights we would protect as leaders, and "built" our communities by working together on maps.
  • Watch this short video Bayanihan: Filipino Spirit.
