MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

Last week I mixed up a first grader's name as I saw him in the hallway. He graciously corrected me and reminded me that it was okay because, "mistakes happen to everyone."

How simple and honest is that? What a great message: mistakes do happen...to everyone.

At Matunuck School we know that setbacks happen; we embrace the messiness that is learning. After all, that's what makes those 'ah-ha' moments so meaningful. You may know of Carol Dweck's work with growth mindset. Fostering this in ourselves and with our students is both challenging and critical for a community dedicated to continuous learning and growth. This article about resilience highlights what teachers at MES do every day--celebrating the joy that comes from learning through hard work and perseverance.

“We should expect mistakes and welcome them, because mistakes are students’ way of

showing us what they (and we) still need to learn.” -Joanne Kelleher

Best,

Mrs. McGuire
