The Bobcat Beat

October 29, 2020

The Fall/Halloween Drive Through was awesome! We loved seeing the children dressed up...and even some of the parents! :)

We now have two weeks of hybrid almost under our belt and everything has been going very well. The children are doing a fantastic job following the safety protocols and school procedures. The Fern Hill teachers and staff have been working tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition. Teaching students in the classroom while also engaging learners at home is no easy task, but our teachers are doing it! We appreciate your grace and understanding as we work through this shift.

SCHEDULE FOR NEXT WEEK IS DIFFERENT - PLEASE READ!!!! (Cohort A is coming Monday and Wednesday, not Tuesday!)

  • Monday, November 2nd: Cohort A comes to school
  • Tuesday, November 3rd: Election Day, In-Service for Teachers, NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS
  • Wednesday, November 4th: Cohort A comes to school!! (no virtual Wednesday this week)
  • Thursday, November 5th and Friday, November 6th: Cohort B comes to school

  • Students with IEPs and English Language Learners attend school 4 days per week.
  • Students in our AS program attend school 5 days per week.

Student Day: 9:10 am - 3:10 pm

Morning Car Drop Off: 8:40 am - 9:05 am

Afternoon Car Pick Up: 3:00 pm - 3:15 pm

Parent/Guardian Pick Up: Thank you for all of your assistance with the new procedures to ensure we are safely loading children and moving the line as quickly as possible.

  • Please do not get out of the car to help your child. If you need to help your child take off coat, etc., please drive to the front parking lot and find a parking spot to do so.

  • Please have your name plate/sign visible. You can hang it from the passenger side visor. If you have it sitting on the dash, we cannot easily see it. It would be helpful if you could hold it up if an adult approaches the car. If you need a name plate please contact Mrs. Zoretic (

  • Pull ALL the way up. Currently, we have cars waiting on the main street and we are trying to get as many cars as possible off of the main road. We will have the children walk to wherever your car is located when you stop.

Request for assistance - remote and cyber students

In an effort to provide additional support for students and parents during remote learning, the district has created a Request for Academic Assistance form for each of the WCASD schools. Students, parents and faculty may complete a form on behalf of a student who is struggling with attendance, work completion or social/emotional learning. This form will be reviewed by a member of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Team (MTSS) to determine the available resources that can be provided. While the form is available, we still recommend reaching out directly to your child's teacher to discuss any concerns.

WCASD Counseling and Mental Health Professionals Service Guide

We recognize that our students at home may feel isolated. Please know that one of our main goals is to help your children feel connected to their teacher, classroom and Fern Hill! Our district has a Counseling and Mental Health Professionals Service Guide to provide supports and resources if your child is having a difficult time through all of this. This guide provides Counselor and Mental Health Professionals' contact information, services, important forms, and additional resources for parents of students Kindergarten through 12th grade.
