Tiger Talk

One Community | One School | One Book
On Monday, April 10, our school will embark on a special project: an all-school book club called One Community One School One Book.
Every family will receive a copy of Saving Winslow by Sharon Creech. Students will receive the book this week during library classes, and families will be invited to read it together at home during the program.
Please click this link to view the reading calendar and to learn more. Happy Reading!
Congratulations to our 2nd Grade Tigers!
Our Tiger 2nd Graders are studying economics, and what better way to learn than to see economics in action!
The 2nd Graders made their own products and services to sell, made their own advertisements, set their prices, and set up their kiosks (aka desks,) and opened up for business the afternoon of April 4.
All proceeds of their sales were donated to the Shriners Children's Hospital. And, we appreciate the Shriners coming to our fair and being available throughout the afternoon. The representatives from the Shriners Children's Hospital are pictured above along with our most excellent 2nd Grade Teaching Team.
The 2nd Graders did a great job. Congratulations, and thanks for making such a lovely contribution to a worthy cause.
Thank you!
So far, we have collected over 3,000!
We are collecting through April 14!
Keep those bags rolling in!
Help WCHE to Win the Challenge!
Everyone who recycles is a winner in our book!
However, thanks to HEB, Tigers also have an opportunity to be winners in a more tangible way. Between March 6 and April 14, we are participating in the HEB Earth Day Recycling Challenge so that we can win even more than the satisfaction of being good citizens of planet earth.
For this challenge, we are collecting plastic retail shopping bags, bread bags, dry cleaning bags, and newspaper bags March 6 through April 14. All Tigers are invited to drop off their bags in the HEB recycling bin that will be placed in our front lobby.
Participating schools will be rewarded with a $150 gift card for an Earth Day Celebration! The top 3 schools with the highest number of recycled bags will win another gift card. 1st place wins a $500 gift card. 2nd place wins a $350 card, and 3rd place wins a $250 card.
Tigers, bring us your bags!!!!! Help WCHE to win the challenge!

Dear Parents of WCHE 5th Graders
If your child receives updated immunizations at his/her 11-year-old well check, please turn the record in to me. I will then be able to make sure that the immunization record is as up to date as possible before he/she is promoted to middle school.
There are 3 vaccines recommended for preteens. At 11-12 years old, your preteen should receive vaccines to protect them from the following diseases:
- Meningococcal disease (MenACWY) (one dose)
- HPV (two doses)
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (pertussis) (Tdap) (one dose)
Please remember that you are welcome to contact me if you have questions concerning immunizations.
Warmest regards,
Kate Neal, RN
