Testing
CAASPP - Each year, students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Your child will take the following tests, depending on their grade level or instructional program:
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts and math, required tests in grades 3–8 and 11
California Science Test (CAST), a required test in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school
Most students will test remotely with their HST.
CAASPP Testing is underway. Please keep a look out for an email from your HST with their planned testing schedule. Remember it’s best practice to break up the test over several days to prevent testing fatigue. We want this to be a good experience for your child and doing a little bit each day will make the whole process much easier and result in your child being able to show their best work.
CPA has a website designed especially for our parents that talks about all the assessments we give throughout the year. Parent Testing Resources Website
CPA Hosted 3 Testing Launch Meetings at which we talked a little about who take the CAASPP and why. We also provided some specific things your child can do to help reduce test anxiety. If you missed our testing launch meetings here is the recording.

Field Trips and Events
CPA - Homeschool Hub Field Trips & Events (FTE)
Important change: Due to state testing, we will not be offering field trips for April. Field trips will resume in May.
Booking for May field trips will begin the following Wednesday, March 9th at 10 am.
This will allow our families sufficient time to register for field trips before the Enrichment ordering deadline in April.
REMINDERS:
Chaperones for school-organized field trips are limited to one per family.
Please do not book additional adults/chaperones using the non-enrolled sibling ticket option.
Depending on the field trip venue, it may be possible to purchase a general admission ticket for additional adults/chaperones. However, any independently purchased tickets are separate from the field trip.
Many field trip venues require us to enter as a single group. To ensure the best experience for everyone, please plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes early to allow sufficient time for unexpected traffic, parking, and checking-in.
If you’re running late (no more than 5 minutes), it is crucial to call and let us know.
We will do our best to try and accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to join late.
If you’re unable to attend a scheduled trip, please call or email us prior to the trip so we can update our attendee lists accordingly.
PHONE: (619) 782-6464 ext. 2278 or 2337

Homeschooling Advice
Why It's Okay for Kids to Redo Their Work and Retake Tests
Roald Dahl said, “By the time I am nearing the end of a story, the first part will have been reread and altered and corrected at least one hundred and fifty times. I am suspicious of both facility and speed. Good writing is essentially rewriting. I am positive of this.”
While I believe Dahl is right, if my children thought they needed to revise a story one hundred and fifty times to produce good writing, they’d never pick up a pencil again. But if not one hundred and fifty times, then how many?
How many times should our child retake a test, re-do an assignment, rework math problems, or revise their writing? Should they do their best the first time or be given as many times as it takes to get it right?
Depending on whom you talk to, the answer varies. If you believe, as I do, the point of an assessment is to see what the student retained so they can continue to build skills and learn, then like me, you believe revision is essential. But revision can feel like a punishment. A redo can be synonymous with failure. I wonder if instead of asking how many times my child should revise, we ask, how can I help my child see revision as part of the learning process.

Hi, I am a Mother of 4 sons, and grandma of 3 little ones. I learned about homeschooling about 5 years ago and I loved the whole concept. I homeschooled my youngest son and he loved it! I wish I had known this way of teaching when my other sons were little. I love helping families to thrive, and be successful! I am here to help you in any way I can.
