Danville South Elementary
Maximizing Student Growth While Creating Positive Memories
Veteran's Day
Danville South Elementary is happy to share that we will host “Take a Veteran to School Day” on Monday, November 11, 2019. Forms were sent home but additional forms may be picked up in the office.
Students are encouraged to invite a family member or a close friend of the family who has served/is serving in our Armed Forces to join us on the afternoon of November 11th.
Veterans are asked to arrive at 12:45 and check in at the registration table in the main hallway. Parking is available at the front entrance, behind the gymnasium, as well as at the west end of the building. Veterans will be escorted to the classroom of their host student.
Classroom Activities will take place until approximately 1:45 and then our Veterans will be dismissed in style with a “Parade of Heroes,” giving students an opportunity to honor our visitors. Students who have prior written consent to leave with their guest may be dismissed at the conclusion of our parade.
Veterans are encouraged to bring a picture and/or an item of interest to show the students.
We look forward to this incredible opportunity.
Doors open at 5:00 for a chili dinner to purchase. We will have chili, hot dogs, chips, desserts, apple slushies, water & coffee to purchase. Dinner will be served throughout the night until we run out of food.
Bingo will start at 6:00. This is a family-friendly event so bring the whole family. Bingo is free to play but we do ask you bring a food item to donate to the Danville Nutrition Club (backpack program).
Family-friendly prizes will be awarded to the winners of the bingo games.
K Kids will offer Literacy facts throughout the night.
Outside recess
Nutrition Club
The Nutrition Club provides supplemental weekend food for children at North, South and the Middle School each Friday during the school year. We all struggle at some point. The goal of this program is to ease a bit of the struggle. You are welcome to sign-up at any point during the school year. The food will be sent home in a plastic bag that can fit inside a school backpack or be carried. You only complete one form per family. List all of your children that you would like to participate. Each child in your family will receive their own cinch sack or bag on Fridays throughout the school year. This program is the result of the generosity of the Danville community!
