Safety and Security
The School Safety Tip Line is a confidential way to report any time you think or know someone is carrying a weapon, drugs, or alcohol on school property. Call or text 770-822-6513.
Transportation News and Reminders
Important Safety Reminder:
When bringing students to school in the car rider line, please do not park and let your child walk to the building. Each car should stay in line and proceed to the sidewalk where staff members are supervising students. Please do not ever park in the handicapped spaces unless you have the appropriate permit. Children should never be crossing lanes of traffic for cars or buses without an adult!
Afternoon Transportation Changes
Beginning September 4th, the school will no longer be able to honor "play date" transportation requests. In the event you want to schedule an after-school event with friends, a car rider transportation request is an option. Please ensure that the person picking up students has a current PMES Car Rider number.
News from the Cafeteria
If you were approved for a free/reduced application last year, you must fill out a new application for this year. You have until September 15th to fill out the new application. If not completed by September 15th, your child will become full pay and you will be responsible for any charges incurred.
Please take the time to fill out a new application at the website link below: (please note, it can take up to 10 days to process an application)

Thank you for your help in this matter.

MyPaymentsPlus Mobile App
Just a reminder – the MyPaymentsPlus Mobile App will only allow you to view/make payments on your student’s meal plan. In order to see orientation agreements, activities or contributions, you must go to the MPP website on a computer or mobile device. Then, you can make payments for activities and contributions.
School Contributions
Speaking of MPP and contributions, we encourage each family to participate in paying the contributions requested by PMES. These contributions help to fund our clinic, pay for agenda books for our 4th and 5th graders, support our school’s wonderful PTA, provide licenses for many of the computer programs we use and much more. It’s quick and easy – just go to the MPP website and select the contribution for which you would like to donate. All donations/contributions are greatly appreciated.
New look for eCLASS
Google Drive = G Suite
Our pmesonline.org domain was suspended this summer due to the creation of a GCPS Google domain for all students and teachers. Students log into Google through My eCLASS by clicking on the link to G Suite. One click logs them in! It's helpful to click on G Suite first, and then go to eCLASS Course pages so all links teachers have for students work more easily. Students would then navigate between browser tabs to move back and forth to different tasks. Our new Google student accounts require that the student is the only one logged into Google as part of the security. If they are doing homework on shared computers, other family members will have to log out of Google before the student can access their files in Google drive or teacher links to documents, forms, and slides.
Fall Break
On October 4th and 5th, we will enjoy our first GCPS Fall Break! Please remember that Wednesday, October 3rd, is a full school day. If at all possible, we ask that early check-outs be avoided on the 3rd. Monday, October 8th is also a student holiday (teacher workday).

Fun and Effective Ways to Read with Children
Experts believe that reading to your child every day is one of the most important things parents can do. Here are ideas for using this reading time to build your child's literacy skills while keeping it fun for both of you:
Encourage your child to read another book
Find ways to encourage your child to keep reading. If he or she likes one book, find another book with a similar subject or by the same author. Ask a librarian or teacher for book suggestions.
Take turns reading
Once your child can read, have him or her read aloud to you every day. You can take turns – you read one page and your child the next.
Make connections to your child's life
Help your child make connections between what he or she reads in books and what happens in life. If you're reading a book about a family, for example, talk about how what happens in the story is the same or different from what happens in your family.
Read it again and again
Your child may want to hear a favorite story over and over. Go ahead and read the same book for the 100th time! This is beneficial for your child.
Try different types of books and magazines
Encourage your child to read different types of books, articles, or stories. Some kids prefer nonfiction books. Others like children's magazines.
Turn on the closed captioning on your television
When watching a television show with your child, try turning on the closed captioning channel. This shows the words the characters are speaking on the television screen.
Ask your child questions
Discuss what's happening in the story and point out things on the page. Ask your child questions such as: "What do you think will happen next?" or "What is this?"
