Make Good Things Happen - August 29, 2019
New Faces at Carlisle - Welcome Jennifer Hernandez
Hello to all my fellow Coyotes!
My name is Jennifer Hernandez. This is my 10th glorious year of teaching and my first in elementary! I am a product of Plano ISD and a 2000 graduate of Plano East Senior High. I have taught high school English for the last eight years at Plano East Senior High. I completed my undergraduate degree in Literature at the University of Texas at Dallas and have two master degrees from Texas Woman’s University. I have a fantastic son and two playful dogs, a dachshund and a boxer. My son is in 3rd grade at Carlisle and we both look forward to a wonderful year.
The Tardy Bell Rings at 7:45 a.m.
Everyday your child is in school is another day they are learning. Missing only 10% of the school year (18 days) can make it hard for your child to keep up with the lessons. If you are struggling to get your child to school on time or to get them to school at all, we are here to help you. Please reach out to us for help.
Reading is Important!!
LEGO Club
Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. If you like Legos and if you like Robotics, joining the Lego Robotics Club might just be your thing! You can pick up an application from Mrs. Hensley in the Library or Mrs. Pao in 3rd grade. Applications must be returned by August 23rd, so if you’re interested in joining, pick up one right away. The first practice for Lego club will start September 3rd from 2:45-4:00. Practices will be held after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Operation Child Safe!!
OPERATION CHILD SAFE
Dial (469) 752-0600 – Press 1 for English, then Press 3 to report an absence
Operation Child Safe is a program established to account for every child who is not present when attendance is taken (7:45am). It is important that you call our Child Safe line every day that your child is absent or tardy, even if you have notified the teacher. Please leave a brief message including your child’s full name, student ID number, grade, teacher, and specific reason for absence or tardy. Child Safe is strictly to confirm your child’s safe arrival at school.
Please remember that calling to report an absence for the purpose of Child Safe does not provide an excuse for the absence. When your child returns to school, a written note (signed and dated) from the parent or doctor stating the reason for the absence or tardy is required within three days in the front office.
Your child’s safety is very important to us! We appreciate your cooperation with Operation Child Safe and with our attendance procedures.
Respectfully,
Carlisle Elementary Office Staff
We'd love for you to come volunteer this year!

Friendly Reminders
Safety First!
This is true for volunteering, lunch visits, attending Good Morning Carlisle on Fridays ~ anytime you are going past the front office. Thank you for your cooperation.
Drive Safely. Children are EVERYWHERE!
MORNING DROP-OFF:
The drop-off line forms along Old Orchard heading west, permitting a right turn only into the driveway. Driving east on Old Orchard, please do not turn left into the driveway.
The City of Plano has posted a “No Left Turn” sign at this location. You may NOT turn left into the driveway between 7:30–8:30 a.m. or 2:30–3:30 pm on school days.
Please pull forward, maintaining a single line to the main entrance before letting your child exit the car. Please stay in your car and come through the driveway. We have a system in place for carpool designed to keep our children safe. All children will enter the school by the main entrance. Parents may start dropping off children at 7:00 a.m. Students go to the gym until 7:30 a.m. when they are dismissed to go to their classrooms.
All children should exit on the right side of the automobile. Children should not exit cars in the middle of the driveway or in the streets. Safety Patrol members are stationed along the front sidewalk to assist your children until the 7:45 bell rings. Adults should not get out of the car for any reason while in the driveway. Please have your children ready to get out of the car as soon as the car stops in the carpool lane.
We recognize there are several restrictions that make carpool a bit tricky in the morning. Every single one of these are in place to keep our children safe and to start each morning with little stress and lots of smiles! Thanks you for your cooperation with each of these carpool safety rules and thank you for modeling respect for our rules and for one another when bringing your children to school each day!

August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month! Below are some tips for keeping eyes healthy!
Healthy Vision Tips:
· Eat different fruits and veggies
Exercise can prevent vision problems in the future
· If your vision changes or you are having trouble seeing things at home or school – tell a parent, the school nurse, or your teacher
· If you have glasses – wear them – believe me, you look super cool!
· Wash your hands before touching your face
· Use protective eyewear to prevent injuries when you’re participating in sports, helping mow the lawn, or performing a fun experiment in class
· Wear sunglasses – chose sunglasses that protect from UVA and UVB radiation and do not look directly at the sun
· Take a break from screens, remember the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
· Say no to smoking – it can cause serious vision problems
· Talk about eye health with your family and get to know if anyone in your family has vision/eye problems
https://nei.nih.gov/kids/healthy_vision_tips
First Aid Tips for Eye Care:
· If you get dust or sand in your eyes – do not rub them! Wash them out with water
· If an object hits you in the eye – put a cold compress on your eye for 15 minutes to help relieve swelling and pain. If pain/swelling continues, ask an adult to take you to see the doctor.
· If any chemical gets in your eye – wash your eye with water for at least 10 minutes and ask an adult to take you to the doctor immediately
· If an object (like a pencil) gets stuck in your eye – it is very serious! Do not pull it out. Have an adult put a loose bandage on your eye and do not put pressure on the object. Have an adult take you to the doctor immediately!
News from our PTA
- Carlisle PTA is thrilled to host our 3rd Annual Fun Run on Sept 27th. The Fun Run is a fun nine-day, character, fitness and leadership program that combines engaging content with a fundraising event for our school. The Carlisle PTA would like to continue with the tradition of providing a free t-shirt to every student. In order to do so, sponsorship opportunities are available for local businesses. The $300 sponsorship is tax deductible and secures a logo placement on the T-shirt as well as a booth to promote your business at the event. If you are interested, please email Jackie.M.Talbot@gmail.com or Community@carlislepta.org
