Seal of Biliteracy
Do you communicate in another language other than English? Are you enrolled in a world language course at SCN? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you might want to consider taking the Seal of Biliteracy exam.
Students who meet the state-approved proficiency level in speaking, listening, reading and writing, may receive the Seal of Biliteracy or Commendation distinction on their diploma and transcript. In addition, many colleges and universities accept the State Seal of Biliteracy as equivalent to two years of foreign language coursework taken in high school and may provide college credit.
Please visit the North High School website to find out more information about the test, the associated fee, and registration for the exam. The test will be administered on Saturday, April 10. The deadline to sign up for signing up is Wednesday, April 7.

Attention North Star Softball Families!
Our softball season is scheduled to begin on April 5, and evaluations will run from April 5 through April 9. Typically we have three levels: JV Black, JV Blue, and Varsity. This is our plan for this season, but it will depend on the number of student-athletes interested in participating.
Before the official start of the season, we hope to hold a few "Contact Days," or open gyms, during March. We are finalizing our schedules for contact days, practices, and games. I hope that I receive these schedules by the end of next week. As soon as I have those dates, I will email all those whose emails we have. On that note, I am asking all families interested in participating this season to register their student-athlete as soon as possible through 8 to 18. This will allow us to include you in all emails in the future and ensure you are receiving all pertinent information.
I will also be posting information on our Google Classroom. Please join our softball Google Classroom by using this code: nut2s37
Additionally, please let any freshman parents who you feel may be interested know about our upcoming season.
You can expect to hear back from me as soon as I have more information for you. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Kristen VandeHei at 630-506-1819 or klmongiovi@aol.com. I look forward to the start of our season!

National Women's History Month
Did you know that Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week? In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the Week of March 8, 1980, as National Women’s History Week. Since 1995, each president has issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” This month, read a book about how women impacted our world, or visit the National Women’s History Museum website to learn more about women in history.
The Genius Of Women
“[Janice Kaplan] makes surprising discoveries about women geniuses now and throughout history, in fields from music to robotics. Through interviews with neuroscientists, psychologists, and dozens of women geniuses at work in the world today--including Nobel Prize winner Frances Arnold and AI expert Fei-Fei Li--she proves that genius isn't just about talent. It's about having that talent recognized, nurtured, and celebrated. "--OCLC. The Genius Of Women

Illinois 5Essentials Survey
Dear Parents and Guardians,
District 303 participates in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey that collects feedback from our students, teachers, and parents. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will give you the opportunity to share your thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness. The responses will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide our improvement efforts. All responses are confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Parent Survey is currently open and will remain so through April 2, 2021. To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey. As part of this communication, we have included graphics of the login page with additional information about how to access the survey. Most notably, make sure you enter Kane County in the box for county even if your home or your child’s school is in DuPage County. This will allow you to correctly select your child’s school.
All District 303 teachers, as well as students in 4th through 12th grades, are being asked to complete this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. Teachers will work with students to assist them with logging in and taking the student survey.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
We value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your input. For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.
Illinois de los 5Esenciales
Estimados Padres y Guardianes,
