Andy Warhol was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished in the 1960's.
The 1960's:
It was during the 1960's that Warhol began to make artworks of iconic objects such as dollar bills, mushroom clouds,electric chairs, Campbell's Soup Cans, Coca-Cola bottles, celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley,Muhammad Ali and Elizabeth Taylor, as well as newspaper headlines or photographs of police dogs attacking civil rights protesters.
His Studio, 'The Factory':
The Factory was the name of Andy Warhol's New York City studio, which had three different locations between 1962 and 1984. this studio became a magnet for celebrities, artists, hipsters and socialites. It became the "go to" place for the 'glitterati'.
