Shout Out
- A shout out to Mrs. Cope for going above and beyond to support The Great Kindness Challenge at DFES. She initiated the addition of daily reminders to afternoon announcements, created a spreadsheet of participants, printed certificates, and sent many "last minute" letters home inviting parents to our UnbeLEAFable Student Celebration (submitted by S. Beckman).

UnbeLEAFable Student Celebration
We will be holding our third UnbeLEAFable Student Celebration on Wednesday, February 21st. Coupled with the UnbeLEAFable Students, we will be honoring our Kindness Challenge Winners. As a result, we have over 160 students and nearly 60 families that are confirmed to attend. Because of our large numbers and space needed, we’re going to ask classes to not plan on attending the event. We will honor each student, and then everyone has access to a light breakfast following. Please send your UnbeLEAFable students to the Mini Theater at 7:45, and expect for them to return around 8:45. Also, if you have a substitute, please send him/her the names of your UnbeLEAFable students.

Facility Tour and Action Items
Back in January of 2018 each school in our system had a facility tour which included members of our district facility department. This tour included inspection of every nook and cranny of our building. The goal was to look for opportunities to improve the overall environment for teaching and learning, which includes custodial and maintenance services, indoor air quality, pest management, recycling, and asset management. At the conclusion of each visit recommendations are made with action items to be taken. The following recommendations were made for DFES:
Any Refig. or Mico. in classrooms needs to be removed.
Door glass needs to be clear on all classrooms.
All items on windows in 1st grade hall need to be removed.
All personal lamps must be replaced with LED bulbs or removed. We will not be supplying LED bulbs.
No items should be hanging from ceilings in classrooms or hallways.
No items are to be 24" from ceilings in rooms, planning centers, office areas
storage closets, hallways and bookrooms. In areas with electrical panels
nothing is to be stored in front of the panel or 3 ft around it.
Any chemicals this includes cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, wipes, etc. Need to be stored out of students reach. If these are in your classroom MSDS sheets must be on file in the front office. Mr. Epting can help you find this information online..
If you have teaching materials in your classroom that are not being used, please remove the unneeded clutter.
No plug in air fresheners
No sofas in classrooms
Please be attentive to the items listed and feel free to contact Mr. Epting with any questions you may have. There will be a follow up visit to ensure that we have adequately taken care of these tasks.
