School Happenings!

April 2022-2023 School Year

Principal's Message

Dear Eagle Families,

Spring is in full spring. We are in April and before we know it we will be starting May. This month we are focusing on Perseverance as we Finish Strong. This is our Capturing Kids Hearts theme and we will be discussing what perseverance means and what it looks like on our campus. Please see the Family Newsletter from Capturing Kids Hearts (below) on how you can bring some of these strategies in to your own homes. Our community and families are the best. You are truly the most supportive of our students.

We finished up our school wide fundraiser/Read-A-Thon. It was extremely successful. This is all thanks to you! We completely appreciate how incredibly supportive our parents, guardians and community are. Our top classrooms and top winners will be celebrating with all sorts of prizes including a pizza party for the top classes and some will celebrate with a silly string party. Our top students will celebrate by being principal, librarian and/or coach for the day! Our goal for our fundraiser was to have some super fun end of the year activities for our students, specifically for our 5th graders. Your support will ensure that all of our students have a wonderful end of the year celebrations.

Please continue to ask your student(s) about their day. Encourage them to read and make time to listen to them read or ask them about what they are reading. It is always a good goal to aim to reach their AR goals in the classroom. If you are not sure what their goal is, please reach out to their teacher. I continue feel blessed every single time I walk through the front doors of our beautiful campus. Your children are amazing and that is all because of you. Your support is everything. This is what helps our teachers continue to provide amazing learning experiences.

STAAR testing is just around the corner. These state wide assessments are a good indicator on our our students are prepared for the next grade level. This also lets us know how we compare to the rest of the state. Last year Los Encinos had an overall A rating and we want to repeat this for this school year. This year our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be taking their reading and writing assessment on Wednesday, April 26th. Our 5th graders will be taking their science test on Tuesday, May 2nd and our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be taking their math test on Wednesday, May 10th. Please make sure that your child(ren) get plenty of rest the night before and come to school on time on these dates. Currently, teachers are working very hard on reviews to ensure our students are ready. It is very important for them to have great attendance. We also have lots of rewards and fun things going on. We don't want any of them to miss anything.

CCISD has officially made the transition to electronic progress reports and report cards. Beginning with the issuance of the 3rd six weeks report cards this past January 13, 2023, campuses will no longer receive and distribute paper copies of report cards or progress reports, unless the parent makes a request to the campus for a printed copy.

With this process, you (parent/guardian) will be prompted to provide an electronic signature. The request of the electronic signature allows the district to comply with the state requirement of seeking a parent signature on the report card. The parent will be prompted to acknowledge receipt of the report card and progress report by clicking an “I Agree” button. Specifically, the parent is agreeing to the following statement, “By clicking the ‘I Agree’ button below, I am providing my electronic signature which indicates the following: my review and receipt of my child’s electronic report card, my right to request a conference with my student’s teacher to review my child’s performance, and my right to request a printed copy of my child’s report card from the campus to submit a handwritten signature.”

The electronic report card and progress report are available in the Canvas Backpack. Both students and parents have access to these records in Canvas Backpack.

Here are some videos created by Instructional Technology. These are parent informational videos about accessing your Canvas account. These are not new videos; these were created by IT as a resource for you as CCISD increased its use of the Canvas platform.

CAPTURING KIDS HEARTS APRIL CHARACTER LESSON: PERSEVERANCE

What is Perseverance?

Perseverance is the willingness and ability to keep going when things are tough. People who persevere show steadfastness and give the extra effort needed to do something despite how hard it is or how long it takes to reach the goal.

Los Encinos Parent Involvement and School Connections

Research states, no matter the child's income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school. -Responsive Classroom
