Evansdale Weekly Newsletter - May 11, 2018

a note from Mr. Clayton

First, let me take this opportunity to thank the Kindergarten parents for providing a delicious "Southern Style" lunch to teachers & staff today. It was the perfect way to end the week and help sustain us for the next 10 days. That is my favorite meal style as well, so any time (or as often as) you'd like to repeat it next year would be fine with me.

Second, please remind your students that we do still have 9 days of school left in the year. We expect students to continue to be on time and ready to learn every morning and keep a positive, respectful attitude throughout the school day. Summer will be here very soon for all of us!

Yearbooks Have Arrived!

If you preordered a yearbook, your yearbook will be going home with your child on Friday, May 18th (except for all 5th graders, they will receive their books on Monday, May 21st). If you did not preorder a yearbook, we will be selling them at school on a first come, first serve basis, until we run out. We will be selling yearbooks in the front entry way on Monday, May 21st, from 7:15am-noon (during honors); and Tuesday, May 22nd - Thursday, May 24th from 7:15am-8am each morning. Yearbooks are $25, please bring cash or a check made payable to “Evansdale Elementary PTA”. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Arnberger at 678.427.8938 or

Rising 6th Grade Girls...Step Up to the Plate

Calling all softball players to the “Jr. Vikings” team! This team is designed for rising 6th- 8th graders who will attend Lakeside High School in the future. To continue to be successful, Lakeside softball needs a feeder middle school aged program. We are working on the details, but need to gauge interest from our community. Please let us know if your daughter is interested in playing in the Fall – NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! The team will practice at the high school. We will need some parent participation; however, the LHS Softball Booster Club will assist in coordination, providing jerseys, scheduling games, and coaching as we start this team. Please include your daughter’s date of birth, grade for the 2018-2019 school year, and experience in your e-mail and your level of involvement. We look forward to a new era with Jr. Vikings! Aviation Day Camps at Fernbank Science Center

Enrollment is open for Fernbank Science Center's summer 2018 aviation day camps, which are in session the weeks of June 18th and 25th. The camps are open to rising 4th through 6th graders.

This long-running, popular STEM based camp provides hands-on aviation experience. The camp is packed with activities that help future aviators understand science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. More importantly, it cultivates students’ sense of wonder, imagination, and creativity. Students will be exposed to careers in aviation through several field trips to airports and other aviation facilities, including component testing and assembly. The culminating experience will be a team build-off competition, in which the students will be challenged to build and fly an aircraft of their own design. Engineers from Lockheed Martin Aviation will mentor the teams.
