Volunteers Needed for Senior Exit Interviews
It’s that time of year again where we ask our valued parents and community members to help our senior students with their final senior exit interview. You do not need to prep in any way, we provide all questions and give detailed instructions on how we will run the sessions when you arrive.
Please use the signup genius link provided below for the March dates. You don't have to stay the whole day, volunteering for just one block/session would help out our seniors immensely. If you know of anyone that you would like to add to this distribution list, please let me know and I can forward it to them.
Charity Week
On March 17th at 7pm, the North Oakland Community Coalition (NOCC) invites you to spend an evening with professional mental health presenter and Lake Orion graduate, Anthony Grupido. The presentation will begin at 7pm on March 17th, and take place at the Lake Orion High School Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:30pm.

Email Etiquette
As part of college and career readiness, it is important that LOHS assists our students with important skills; one of them is email etiquette. There are so many essential skills that students need to succeed in the future, and being able to communicate professionally and effectively is one of them. This graphic was shared at a homeroom earlier this year with our students.
DUAL ENROLLMENT/EARLY MIDDLE COLLEGE INFORMATION
Did you know that Lake Orion Community Schools offers many ways for students to earn college credit in high school?
In addition to articulation credits in State Approved Career and Technical Education Courses and Dual Enrollment, LOHS is offering 2 Early College Programs for students starting as early as 9th grade.
An early middle college (EMC) is a Michigan Department of Education approved five-year program of study that begins in high school. EMCs work closely with postsecondary partners to provide students with an opportunity earn a high school diploma and one or more of the following:
- 60 transferable college credits
- An associate degree
- A professional certification
- The Michigan Early Middle College Association (MEMCA) technical certificate
- Participation in a registered apprenticeship
The American Institutes for Research found that students who take college-level courses in high school where more likely to go on to earn a college degree, will earn more in their career, and less likely to depend on government assistance. They also found evidence that supports the fact that exposing students to college courses/college-level courses in high school can increase the likelihood of success.
In the 2023-24 School year, LOHS will continue to offer the University of Michigan -Flint DEEP program and introduce the Rochester University Early College Program, which has proven to be strong in surrounding districts.
Please join us for informational parent meetings for Rochester University on Tuesday, March 7th in the KIVA at 6PM and Monday, March 13th for the University of Michigan Flint meeting.
For those who missed the Rochester University meeting, we are looking to schedule a second one in April.
If you have any questions, please contact Rosa Everitt, Assistant Principal at LOHS. Rosa.everitt@lok12.org
Applications for the Rochester University Early College Program will be available on Monday March 13th. We will be updating the website this week to keep parents and students up to date. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Barnes at julie.barnes@lok12.org

School Dismissal Manager
We have started utilizing School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program for parents to communicate early student departures. LOHS successfully used the SDM program last year. It is accessible on either computer or smartphone, allowing parents the opportunity to officially submit an early dismissal request without calling the school.
On approximately September 22, you should have received a communication from School Dismissal Manager with additional details. Parents are encouraged to check their designated email accounts. Also, be advised the message might be redirected to your “junk” folders. The welcome email from SDM provides all relevant information necessary to activate and begin using your account.
Family Portal
Just a reminder that Sendmoneytoschool.com has been replaced by lakeorion.familyportal.cloud. Please visit the site to set up a lunch account for your student. There is a tutorial at the bottom of the Family Portal page that walks you through the process of setting up an account. Information on meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year are listed below:
