Welcome to a new school year from "Wigglesworth"

Our working, perking, wacky, waving, inflatable, air flailing tube dude is looking forward to a great year in art and music throughout our Billings schools. Our monthly newsletters will keep you up-to-date on the many happenings in the fine arts. From concerts to exhibits, our young artists have so much to share!

Let's meet the teachers in the BPS Fine Arts! Many of our staff serve multiple schools.

Their homeschool is in Bold for your reference.

Elementary Art Staff Members

"Prickly Pear" - Meadowlark, Sandstone, Central Heights, and Ponderosa - 4th & 5th graders - December 2021

Indigenous to the Yellowstone River Valley is the prickly pear cactus. Vibrantly colored when in full bloom, it lives the entire year on and around the Rims.

This cooperative installation is a scene of the Rimrock Range assembled as a mosaic with painted canvases. Each one of Danielle Zaparynuk's art students painted the prickly pear cactus in a monochromatic color scheme with tempera on a 3" by 3" canvas.

Last school year, students from Ben Steele Middle School were asked to paint a few ceiling tiles for the Emergency Department at Billings Clinic. The Director of the ED asked Art Teacher, Karla Ferguson if she would be interested in painting a few tiles. Karla was able to incorporate the project into her 6th and 8th grade Art classes. The students brainstormed, and came up with the a theme that would be healing and calming - Montana Landscapes. They have returned 8 tiles and have 3 left to paint this semester. Through this collaboration Ben Steele Middle School Art students were able to bring Art and healing for our community.
