LSA English Presentation, 2A

You can't depend on anyone else; you can only depend on yourself.

"If you want the job done right, you've gotta do it yourself."

"Don't depend to much on anyone in this world, because even your shadow leaves you when you are in darkness."

Building a General Understanding of this Belief Statement

While this statement does present a rather pessimistic out look on life, the message that is conveyed through it is rather hard hitting. Bringing forth the widespread issue of lacking trust in mankind, and believing that in order to accomplish goals to optimal standards one must, for lack of better words, skip the middle man and do it yourself (DIY).

Digressing from the pessimistic aspects of this statement and bringing forth a more optimistic viewpoint, independence is key in this statement, however, the extent of isolation is a bit too extreme in concerns of this statement.

My personal interpretation of this statement laying along the lines of a quote by Mahatma Gandhi," Be the change you wish to see in the world."

"It is better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction."

Self Reliance - Ralph Waldo Emerson

HENCEFORTH, please God, forever I forego
The yoke of men's opinions. I will be
Light-hearted as a bird, and live with God.
I find him in the bottom of my heart,
I hear continually his voice therein.

The little needle always knows the North,
The little bird remembereth his note,
And this wise Seer within me never errs.
I never taught it what it teaches me;
I only follow, when I act aright.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world" -Mahatma Gandhi
