Let's Go!
8.30.21
Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year!
Careful planning has gone into welcoming our students back into the building this Wednesday, September 1, 2021. We have worked with district leadership and our staff to identify protocols surrounding the safety, educational, social, and emotional needs of our students and families.
Minimizing interactions over the course of the school day, as well as increasing our cleaning efforts are at the top of our list.
- Hand sanitizing stations at various locations and increased hand washing throughout the day.
- Students with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be isolated and sent home.
- Our main office will be open to parents with inquiries or to pick up their child.
- Parents dropping off items throughout the day, such as lunches, may leave them at the main office.
Daily Schedules
- The first bell rings at 9:05 am. Students may enter the building through the main entrance on NE Siskiyou or the doors off of the parking lot on NE 72nd Avenue.
- First period begins at 9:15.

Health Screening
Prior to school each day, we ask that families conduct a health check on their child(ren).
Does your child have any of these symptoms that are not caused by another condition? If the answer is yes, you are required to keep your student home.
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- Recent loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Within the past 14 days, has your child had contact with anyone that had COVID-19 or COVID-like symptoms? Contact is being 6 feet (2 meters) or closer for more than 15 minutes, or having direct contact with fluids from a person with COVID-19 (for example, being coughed or sneezed on).
- Has anyone in your household had a positive COVID-19 test or active virus in the past 10 days?
- Within the past 14 days, has a public health or medical professional told anyone in your household to self-monitor, self-isolate, or self-quarantine because of concerns about COVID-19 infection?
Lockers
Once necessary repairs have been made to the lockers, students in grade 6 will be assigned a locker by their 2nd period teacher. Students in grades 7 & 8 will be assigned a locker by their third period teacher. This will allow students to store items prior to dismissal for recess and lunch.
Breakfast, Lunch, Snack
Breakfast:
- Students may get breakfast at the entrance near NE 72nd Avenue beginning at 8:50am. Breakfast will be eaten outside until further notice.
Lunch:
- Each grade level has their own lunch period. We will begin the year eating lunch outside. Students may bring towels, blankets, garbage bags, or yoga mats to sit on while eating. Roseway is purchasing additional items for student seating.
Snack:
- Snack will occur during 5th period each day. Teachers will escort students outside for a mask break and snack.
Safety Protocols

COVID Screening and Testing
Screening Testing
PPS is ready to provide a screening/testing option to your students. However, the Oregon Health Authority has yet to provide the complete details of this screening option.
Here is what we do know:
- Unvaccinated staff who are enrolled in this regular screening testing will be sent test kits to their homes. They will administer the test in their home and mail it in. They will receive the results within 24 hours.
- Students whose families sign a consent for testing (17 years and under) will be provided the screening kit to bring home one time per week. The following morning, the family will administer the test and send it to school with their child. Collection sites will be at each school. A courier from the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), who is administering the program, will pick up the kits on specific days for each school. Families will receive the results within 24 hours.
- OHA and OHSU will first focus on students in grades K-5 for PPS, since there is no vaccine for this age group at this time. As they build their testing capacity, they will increase the number of tests they can run daily.
- For both students and staff, if a positive result is received, families and/or staff will be asked to contact their school. This will help us limit exposure and begin the process for contact tracing and quarantine.
- PPS will also receive confirmation of a positive result from the Multnomah County Health Department who will begin the process for contact tracing and quarantining.
Symptomatic/Diagnostic Testing
We will continue to offer symptomatic/diagnostic testing in each school for all students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19 during the school day. Public health experts agree that these rapid tests are important for strengthening our effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We will follow the quarantining process immediately.
We are waiting eagerly for more information from the Oregon Health Authority, They have informed us that they plan to have more information to share with PPS families within the next few days. In the meantime, we will continue to follow the additional layers of our health and safety measures, will offer testing for students or staff who display symptoms during the school day and will follow all guidance from our local health experts.
