What We Are Learning!
Reading & Science- Bats, owls, and creatures of the night! Oh my! This week we will be learning about nocturnal animals. In this unit, we will be comparing fiction and non-fiction books and the differences between facts and fantasy.
Writing- This week we will be working together to create a class book again. Due to a few disruptions in our schedule this week, we did not get to complete the class book as expected. We will be finishing up this unit next week.
Math- Counting- At the beginning of the year we did a quick introduction to the numbers 1-20. Next week we are going to go back and make sure we have a solid understanding of the numbers 1-10. Students will be writing, identify, counting, and sequencing numbers. You can help with these skills at home by identifying numbers written around them, counting objects in groups, and practicing writing letters.
Sharing Our Writing!
Each day we spend a few moments to share our stories that we create in writing. This is a fun way that we work on our speaking and listening skills in class.
The students were so excited to have a Popsicle Party for having excellent behavior and earning 30 Principal Prides.
Sharing Our Writing!
- Snacks- We have a snack time in the afternoon. Many students are saying they do not have a snack. Please send your child with a snack every day. If it would be more convenient to send an entire pack of snacks, I can store your child's snack container above their cubby with their name on it for them to get their snack from everyday.
- Library-The students did a great job remembering to bring back their library books on Wednesday to check out new books! We will be doing this every Wednesday throughout the year.
- Parent Teacher Conference Forms- Thursday I sent home Parent Teacher Conference sign up forms on a bright green paper. I received many back. Please be sure to mark 3 choices ranked from 1st to 3rd choice. I will try my best to assign you one of the three choices you mark on the form. You will get a definite date and time form on October 10th in your child's folder. I can't wait to meet with you and discuss your child's accomplishments in a few short weeks!
- Folders- Many students are starting to misplace their folders or behavior calendars in their folders. It is really important that your child learns the responsibility of keeping track of their folders and sharing their folders with you every night. Students at Belair from Kindergarten all of the way to 5th grade are expected to keep track of their folder and discuss their work, behavior calendar, and other important notes sent by the teacher every night. Please help your child learn this responsibility by asking them for their folder and helping remind them to place it in their backpacks when finished.
Remember-- NO SCHOOL Friday, October 7th
The students had so much fun when they HyVee nutritionist came to tell us a little bit more about apples and help us create a spooky snack!
Such a mess and so much fun!
Bananas, yogurt, and a little bit of sprinkles make for a yummy, healthy, and fun snack.
