Week of April 27 - May 1, 2020

A Message from Mrs. Garrison

Dear Powell Families,

It is hard to believe we have been digitally learning for six weeks now! We have already started planning for next year. Don't forget to fill out the class placement survey by April 27th. Your input is important to us. Also, please register now if you have a child that will be entering kindergarten next fall. Early registration helps us determine the number of teachers we will need.

At this time we are also working on end of the year celebrations. It is really important to me that we recognize our fourth graders who have been with us over the last five years, our kindergartners that should be walking across the stage to graduate, our teachers that are retiring/leaving, and many more. I'll keep you posted as the details unfold.

Social Media has been so uplifting. Keep sharing the great things your kids are doing at home. We love these #proudpowellteacher post!

For our Happy Hump Day Challenge next week we are going to join Lowe’s Home Improvement. They have created a new way to thank frontline workers during the coronavirus outbreak. Launching the #BuildThanks campaign on April 6, the home improvement store is asking Americans to get creative with supplies they already have at home to make thank you signs and messages for medical professionals. After creating signs of gratitude, Lowe’s is asking DIY makers to show off their messages on social media, using the hashtag #BuildThanks

Announcements from home continue to be a bright spot in everyone's day. More dates have been added to the sign up! We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our families in this way.

District and campus administrators along with curriculum experts have been developing grading guidelines for the fourth nine-weeks. These guidelines provide that students will not be placed at a disadvantage as a result of the current situation and the fourth nine-week’s grade will not be lower than the third nine-week’s grade. To view the complete grading guidelines documents for elementary/intermediate and secondary, please visit our Policies, Handbooks, and Forms webpage. Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

If you will be moving between now and the start of the 20-21 school year, please contact our Registrar, Michelle Lutes, at mlutes@conroeisd.net. We want to ensure your child has a smooth transition to their next school.

Don't forget to follow us on Facebook to tune in to our morning announcements, Hump Day Challenges, Freaky Science Friday, and Weekend Warrior Series with our Specials Team. We would love to feature the learning from home and ways your family is giving back to our community on Facebook. If you want us to feature your family or child, please post on Facebook and check into Powell Elementary School. We will re-post your message. You can also send the information to your child's teacher. We appreciate ALL that you do and want to share your story!

Enjoy your weekend,

2020-2021 Powell Class Placement Survey

We are planning for next year! The teachers and administrative team at Powell Elementary utilize input from a number of sources when making a class placement decision for the upcoming school year. We try very hard to match your child's educational needs with our teachers' instructional styles. You may hear information from neighbors and friends recommending specific teachers. However, we feel we can best match teaching and learning styles with our careful placement criteria. A specific teacher may only be requested if an older sibling has previously been in the teacher's class. We believe that all our teachers are outstanding and that each classroom provides a unique learning experience. Your input is also important to us. Please complete this form no later than Monday, April 27th at 8:00 AM. The form will be disabled at that time and no late responses will be accepted. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request, however, a request does not guarantee placement.
