Tēnā koutou katoa (hello everyone)

This week's newsletter starts with a massive shout out to all of those people who have been going full on organising lots of different things largely behind the scenes. Everyone is A. over the terrible weather we have been having, B. racing around catching up on work and life, so to have you adding to your load to help us here at school we really can't thank you all enough.

We would like to give a special mention to Neil Anderson who spent the middle Saturday of the holidays ringing up the fallen gum logs in preparation for our working bee; Duncan McGregor who spent most of the next Sunday driving here in his tractor to move logs, drop off straw and split firewood; Liz Mason who is flying around organising pie fundraisers, lunch rosters, fair stalls, cleaning our school pool and doing a myriad of other things; Joe Quirke who has saved the day many times and been fixing things constantly at school; the FoGS committee & extras who are flat out sorting auctions, plants, raffles, cow pat bingos, signage, advertising, games, cafe's, food tents, parking; BoT members who are tirelessly sorting budgets, property projects, policies, grant applications, pet day judges; parents who are busy organising sports teams, coaching, getting stuck into fair prep, helping out at working bees, getting kids organised with scarecrow gear & pet day items. We know it's exhausting and hope that you're all not getting worn out in the process.

William McLean; Isla Postuma; Angus Blake; Pippa Giddens; Oscar Neumann; Warner Colman & Leo McLeod along with Ali Lang have all settled in well and are a welcome addition to 'Team Gladdy. We would like to also remind new families that have started during the year to add a whānau rock under our Ahi Kaa.

Scarecrow Making 2022

Well done to our tamariki & kaiako for getting their scarecrows made on Wednesday amidst the torrential down pour of rain. We got there and all pitched in to support getting the project over the line. I'm not sure that we've seen so much spray paint in action for a while. Here are some pics of the scarecrows as they were being attached to the fence.

Mark the shark and his daughter Charlotte are back at school teaching athletics skills to our students. They do such a great job and we really appreciate having the expert tuition from such highly qualified people. Here are the Kourarau tamariki in action:

This cool article about the recent Gladdy's Got Talent show popped up in the Midweek on Wednesday.

On the 2nd Tuesday of the holidays we hosted an Enviroschools workshop which was such a fabulous day to be part of. Thanks to Andrew Stewart for the awesome photographs & as Gill said "to all of the hands involved putting together and running this day and all who participated and contributed through good conversations and sharing. Ngā mihi nui ki a kōrua Rā rāua ko Nanny Francis for sharing your stories, knowledge and places". Kia ora. The group very generously donated a koha which we have put towards the bee gardens.

FoGS Update

Scarecrow Fair

We have our roster out for fair day helpers. Please add a family members name to the roster if you haven't already. Those of you who put your names down at Pet Day this morning have been added to the online copy - thanks so much for putting yourselves down.

On Friday the 28th of October a 'package' will be coming home to whānau. In the package will be a box for baking and a bag for the mystery bag stall. Baking can be returned to school in the box on Friday the 11th of November.

Mystery bags can be returned anytime - preferably by Monday the 7th of November to allow time for sorting. Both of these stalls are extremely popular and any contributions families can make in this space is hugely appreciated.

Kat Wildy would also greatly appreciate any seedlings or plants for the plant stall. These can be dropped off at school anytime leading up to the fair.

We received $2,500 which we hope to put towards the purchase of a storage container and some bikes so that at long last our kids can start using the track properly. Thanks also to Bruce Warnock who has very kindly offered to donate repaired bikes for the students to use - awesome Bruce.
