Legacy Pride
March 2021 Vol 59
Dear Families,
Happy March and Happy Spring! Spring Break is scheduled to begin on March 15, 2021. Please enjoy time with family and friends.
Thank you to all the families that participated in our Virtual Math and Science Night. It was awesome to see everyone that joined the Discovery Science zoom session!
We have been noticing a lot of students arriving to school late. Please remember that instruction begins promptly at 7:45 am. Students should be seated in their classrooms at 7:45 am so learning may begin. If a student arrives after 7:45 am, they will be marked tardy. We encourage that if your child is a walker or car rider that they arrive to school no later than 7:35 am to provide them time to pick up breakfast and/or arrive to class on time. Also, remember to send your child with a face covering to school.
Please continue to encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes every night. Also, practice their basic math facts and any other skill they are learning. We only get better when we practice. Have a happy and safe spring break!
Sincerely,
Shameka Murphy, Principal
From Mrs. Curty...
Happy March Legacy Families!
Can you believe that Spring is just around the corner?
Students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades have been busy learning how to identify basic similarities and differences between two texts, comparing and contrasting adventures of a character in a familiar story, and how illustrations and details in a story are used to describe the setting of a story.
In math, your students have been working on place value, decomposing numbers into hundreds, tens and ones, and are learning how to explain why addition and subtraction strategies based on place value and properties of operations work.
There has been so much learning going on that students are ready for a break…Spring Break that is! This year our Spring Break begins Monday, March 15. Students return to school on Tuesday, March 23.
I hope you have a wonderful, and safe Spring Break with your students. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return!
If I can assist you in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
As always, I am Proud to be in the Pride!!
Mrs. Curty
From Mrs. Swain...
Greetings Legacy Families,
We begin state standardized testing at the beginning of April, with 3rd ELA and 4th & 5th Writing. Other assessments will be administered in May. Specific test dates will soon follow. I continue to encourage families of our 3rd – 5th Grade students to visit www.fsassessments.org and become familiar with the plethora of valuable resources made available for all things testing related! We will continue to prepare students to perform at their individual best and to show what they know! Practice tests are available for reading, math and writing; I encourage you to access these materials, and utilize them at home in any way that you see fit for your student(s). We appreciate all that you do to continue to support students in this endeavor, and in reaching the shared goal of academic growth and achievement.
As always, please reach out with any questions or Concerns.
Warm Regards,
Angela Swain

Student Services Manager
Spring is in the air and students (and teachers) are very excited for the upcoming Spring Break! When we come back from break, there is a long stretch until we are off again for summer. We will be in the “testing season” for many of our students and working hard to finish strong for the last grading quarter. We want all of our students doing their very best academically and socially. Remember to encourage your child to ROAR with 4!
( R – Respect, O- On Task, A - Aim High, and R – Responsibility)
