A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
As we wrap up a spirited Homecoming week, here are a few items of interest. Our first two mandatory state tests were completed on Tuesday. 98% of our Sophomores and Seniors completed the tests, and makeup tests have been scheduled. Workkeys for Seniors who missed the test and Pre ACT for Sophomorew who missed the test will be Tuesday, October 15th.
Additionally, the optional PSAT for Sophomores and Juniors is next Wednesday, October 16th, only students who have signed up and paid will be testing. This link has valuable information for those who are testing and those who are not testing. In the link, please note the Bus Schedule for October 16th.
We are planning a recognition ceremony for students who have scored a 30 or higher on the ACT. The ceremony will be held at the Spain Park vs. Oak Mountain home football game on 10/18/19. Details about event specifics will be coming soon. We are gathering data on the students who fall into this prestigious category. If your student has scored a 30 or higher on the ACT, please complete this form ACT Recognition Form by 10/14/19. The information collected from this form will be the sole source of information used to organize this ceremony. We will be sending this out to your students through their Google Classroom next week.
On the athletic scene, congratulations to Coach Bowen and the SPHS Volleyball Team for sweeping Mountain Brook Spartans, the number two team in the state. A special congratulations to senior Paris Morris, who reached the 1,000 career kills milestone and senior Jessica Veal, who reached the 1500 career assist milestone. Our girls and boys Cross Country teams traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, for the Frank Horton Invitational and had a great showing. Tonight is our homecoming game versus Thompson High School and at half-time, we will crown the 2019 SPHS Homecoming Queen. Please come out and support the Jags!
We have two of our World Language teachers who have been nominated for the Alabama World Language Association Teacher of the Year. Awardees are selected by each of the respective state language associations. Nominees exemplify excellence in world language education, evidence of promotion of world language teaching and learning, and professional involvement in the AWLA. Congratulations to Mrs. Chrissy Roe, Spanish Teacher, and Mrs. Danelle Cash, French Teacher. Also, congratulations to Mr. Danny Spencer, Algebra I teacher is the SPHS Teacher of the Quarter.
As a reminder to our Seniors, Josten's Campus Recognition will be taking orders for Senior Graduation Announcements on October 10th during the lunch hours. Please contact Campus Recognition at 205-985-0150 for more information or pick up a packet of information at SPHS front desk.
And finally, a special Thank you to Bryan Sheffield, with Sheffield Insurance Agency for his support of our Positive Behavior Intervention Support Program. His generosity has afforded us to reward students for their Positive Behavior.
As always, I am available to hear your feedback on how we can make SPHS a great place to be.
Sincerely,
Peter L. Giangrosso

World Heritage Week
World Heritage Week
This year we are celebrating Word Heritage Week October 21-25. We would like to invite the families of Spain Park to participate with us! There are several ways our families and students can get involved!
1. We will be doing a display of countries in our library and we would love to represent our students' country of origin throughout the week.
2. We will be having a Food Tasting and we would love for families to join us for this event. This event is FREE but we would love for families to bring a dish (main dish, side dish or dessert) to feed 8-10 people. Bringing a dish is NOT required to attend the event.
3. We will be offering activities for the students throughout the week during their AO time. The events include arts and crafts from various countries, board games from around the world a Foods from Around the World event and an opportunity to learn dances from around the world.
Please help us by filling out the World Heritage Week form below to let us know how you can help us make this Celebration a great event for our school!
