Family Support Group Postponed due to Family Conference Schedule

Our regularly scheduled Family Support Group for Tuesday Feb. 16th at 11:15am has been postponed due to our family conference schedule. The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 2nd.

EBAYC Learning Hubs Opening at UPA on Feb. 22nd

UPA is partnering with EBAYC to provide in-person support for students during distance learning. This means that some students will be invited to come to UPA campus every day for support. Students will still be engaging in Zoom classes with teachers while on campus, participating in community building activities, outdoor time and support with independent reading and class work. We understand that many students need support during this time, but in order to keep the Hub safe we have to limit the program to serve 30 students total.

Families will be contacted over the next few weeks with invitations to join the Learning Pod. Students were selected based on individual student need. The following criteria were used to select students for the Learning Hubs:

  • In the beginning stages of learning to speak, read and write in English

  • Have been in the US for 3 or fewer years

  • Distance learning has been challenging due to technology access or lack of space for focused learning

  • Social-emotional needs

  • Students that have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

We wish we could invite all students back to campus at this time, but it is not yet safe to do so. We must limit the number of students on campus at one time. Therefore, we must prioritize students based on their current need for support.

If you have any questions, please call Mr. Freddy Mesa at 510-219-0467.

COVID-19 Vaccines for Alameda County Residents Age 65 and Over

I’m excited to let you know that La Clinica is now able to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to community members who are 65 years old and older! This vaccine is safe, effective, and is the most important tool we have to protect ourselves, our families and our communities against COVID. La Clinica cannot guarantee that your family member will get a vaccine but is making a list of people who they can call when vaccine is available. If you have a family member who is 65 years or older, lives in Alameda county and is interested in the vaccine, please complete this form with their information! Please note, you do not have to be a La Clinica patient.

Do you Want to Get Involved With Family Outdoor Nature Hikes?

Oakland Goes Outdoors (OGO) is providing opportunities for UPA families to participate in outdoor nature hikes. Families who participate in the hikes will get an adventure pack filled with supplies, a trail map and support with outdoor activities. If you are interested in learning more about how to have fun exploring nature with your children, please email freddy@ebayc@org or call Freddy Mesa at 510-219-0467.

OAL Athletic Conditioning has opened in OUSD Middle Schools

Oakland Athletic League (OAL) is offering outdoor athletic conditioning to middle school sites across the city. It will not be available at our UPA campus, however, UPA students can register and attend an outdoor conditioning class at another school site. Here is the registration form for students to participate.

OUSD Informational Sessions - COVID Medical Info and Reopening of Schools

  • OUSD Hosted Family Medical Info Sessions: Feb. 25. Please join us for one of many Family Medical Info Sessions scheduled in February. These sessions are in partnership with the UCSF Pediatric Advisory Task Force (convened by the UCSF Center for Child and Community Health). This taskforce of medical doctors has expertise in COVID and pediatric and adult medicine. Details and access info will be posted at www.ousd.org/reopening2021infosessions. Have a question you’d like to ask? Let us know here.

UPA Outdoor Library Open Every Week!

Students should be reading independently for 30 minutes every day. Does your student need an interesting book to read during this time? Come to the Outdoor UPA Library this Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.

If your student checked out a book before Winter Break, this would be a perfect time to return the book and check out a new one.

Everyone must wear a mask and observe social distancing rules during the outdoor library.
