Hello UPA Families,
Family conferences are continuing THIS WEEK! Be sure you have scheduled your conference time with your child's mentor. We look forward to the opportunity to talk with UPA families to build stronger communication about how we can work in partnership to support your child's learning during this challenging time. We have been so impressed with our student's perseverance and we look forward to sharing their successes and goals with their family.

EBAYC Learning Hubs Opening at UPA on Feb. 22nd
UPA is partnering with EBAYC to provide in-person support for students during distance learning. This means that some students will be invited to come to UPA campus every day for support. Students will still be engaging in Zoom classes with teachers while on campus, participating in community building activities, outdoor time and support with independent reading and class work. We understand that many students need support during this time, but in order to keep the Hub safe we have to limit the program to serve 30 students total.
Families will be contacted over the next few weeks with invitations to join the Learning Pod. Students were selected based on individual student need. The following criteria were used to select students for the Learning Hubs:
In the beginning stages of learning to speak, read and write in English
Have been in the US for 3 or fewer years
Distance learning has been challenging due to technology access or lack of space for focused learning
Social-emotional needs
Students that have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
We wish we could invite all students back to campus at this time, but it is not yet safe to do so. We must limit the number of students on campus at one time. Therefore, we must prioritize students based on their current need for support.
If you have any questions, please call Mr. Freddy Mesa at 510-219-0467.

UPA Outdoor Library Open Every Week!
Students should be reading independently for 30 minutes every day. Does your student need an interesting book to read during this time? Come to the Outdoor UPA Library this Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.
If your student checked out a book before Winter Break, this would be a perfect time to return the book and check out a new one.
Everyone must wear a mask and observe social distancing rules during the outdoor library.

UPA Food Distribution on Thursdays
UPA is continuing to distribute free groceries every Thursday from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Any community member is able to get groceries during this time. Please invite your friends and family members to come and get food.
