Principal's Message

Dear Sabre families,

On behalf of the SAL staff, we hope you had a restful break and are ready to start 2023. If our first three school days this past week were an indicator of the new year, it is going to be a good one!

There was an awesome energy and ‘feeling’ in the school with a plethora of smiles, head nods, and hugs from our Sabres as we returned. With the three days under our belt, we collectively have our routine and legs under us as we head into our first full week of January. The upcoming week will be hectic with the start of exams, specifically the Part A exams in English and Social Studies. For all final exams, please refer to exam schedule below.

Big picture

While our last day of scheduled classes is on January 18, stay tuned for specific times and a schedule for academic support during the exam period in next week’s edition of the Scene. As a note, all academic disciplines along with our option (CTS) classes will be open for students to get extra support or credit recovery.

With the change in year, we are also eagerly anticipating and so excited to celebrate the Salisbury graduation class of 2023! We still have heavy lifting and lots of work to do until our Sabres ‘walk the stage’ but while we have one eye on graduating, the other is on life after high school. Building off of our career counselling conversations, we will also be providing similar offerings should students need support in applying for post-secondary, trade and scholarship offerings as the complexity of these tasks can be overwhelming for our families. Again, stay tuned in the next Scene for the Google form to sign up for individual support.

This week brings us to our Salisbury art exhibit which is open to all and all are welcome. The "Evening of Fine Art" will include art from our students in Art 30, 20, 10 classes, as well as art from Art 10 Honours, Art 20 and 30 IB. There will be music and refreshments, and a door prize to win.

Also, the Jim Lazaruk Basketball Invitational Tournament will be held on January 12 and 13, 2023. For those that didn’t have the privilege of knowing Mr. Lazaruk, he was a pillar and mentor in the community and to staff members. He was a tireless worker and had the innate ability to connect with all students.
Big picture

The weather to start the year has been unbelievable and it continues to look that way for the near future which is already a positive from how we ended last year.

Do enjoy and have a great first full week of January!
