Alward Students and Staff Making a Difference-SOARing Together
This week, we kicked off recognizing students and classes for exhibiting SOAR behaviors at Alward. Students were shown the short video linked here to explain what the tokens are and how they can earn them. Tuesday, students and classes started to receive the tokens! As students and classes receive tokens, they are placed into a pocket chart. The class then works together to reach a goal. Our goal for October is 35 tokens. Once the class reaches 35 tokens, they can vote on a celebration "party." Numerous classes have already reached the October goal of 35 tokens and celebrated on Friday. It has been fun seeing our students working together to earn a class token and then celebrating when they have reached the goal!

Come One, Come All to the Greatest Book Fair of All
Our fall book fair is October 21st - October 25th. All students will have a time slot to look for books and make a list to take home. Then, they will have a second day to buy their books. A schedule will be sent home to parents next week with each classes look and buy times. New this year is ewallet to shop for books. Check out the video link below that explains how ewallet works! http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/ewallet-parents
Also, volunteers are needed during the book fair hours and on Literacy Night (October 23) to help students make wish lists and buy books. Please sign up with this link for days and times that work for you!

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS:
Amazon Smiles: We now have an account set up with Amazon to collect a donation whenever anyone shops at smile.amazon.com with this link:
https://smile.amazon.com/ch/38-3393971
It's the same Amazon, same items, same prices. But when users check out through this link, we get 0.5% of their purchase donated back to PTC. Such an easy way to earn money for our school!
Box Tops Collection: We used to collect box tops, count them and mail them in. Our school would earn money in return. The Box Top Program is changing slightly, stay tuned for more details! You can still save those box tops, but there will be a new way for us to get credit for them!
Family Fare Receipts: Save your Family Fare Receipts and turn them in to the office. That's it! So Easy! Our volunteer team will enter them. When we reach $150,000, we earn $1,000 for our school!
Paper Gator: Did you know our school has a paper gator? It is located on the east side of the building in the bus loop. Feel free to drop off the below items at your convenience. Our school earns money just for recycling! Please remember not to drop off items during our bus times of 8:15am-9am and 3:15pm-4pm. Thank you!!

Community Events
Fall Fest
Jamestown Harbor Church will be hosting a Fall Fest for the community on Saturday, October 26, from 1-3 pm at Jamestown Lower Elementary School. The event will include carnival games, face painting, costume contest, cake walk, family photo booth, snacks and drinks, and of course lots of candy! We'd invite you to join us for this free family event!
Candy Land Halloween Event at Jenison Bible Church.
October 31 from 6-8 pm.
This is an indoor and completely free event for our community. Come follow the Candy Land trail and collect candy. When finished, you will end at a carnival with lots of games, prizes, bounce houses, face painting, craft, photo booth, door prizes, cake walk, and Magic Shows at 6:30 & 7:15. Come get out of the cold and (maybe) rain or snow and enjoy some warm, indoor fun for your family!
Reminders from the Office
Late/Tardies: All students coming in to the building after 8:50am, need to be signed in by a parent/guardian. If they are not signed in, they will receive an unexcused tardy.
End of day changes: We know that things come up and sometimes families have to make changes to how their kids are going home. Please make your best effort to let the office know of these changes before 3:00pm. The office is very busy at the end of day, and changes after 3pm are difficult to communicate to the classroom teacher. Thank you for your help with this!
