Tonasket School District
Weekly Update ~ 10/8/2021
SCHOOL DISTRICT GOALS:
Capital Project Update
Nothing New to Report - I should have some new timelines on the modular by early next week.
Powerful Teaching and Learning
The OK Corral (county superintendents) had a meeting yesterday. We meet monthly to discuss common issues and support each other in our work. 99% of our conversation was related to managing COVID -19. It is what is keeping every school leader very busy right now!
The administrative team started its first session of training with Character Strong training for school administrators called Mastermind. We will have several sessions during the year to help us improve our skills as administrators and to build an even stronger team. If the first season was any indication, it will be a great professional development opportunity!
Stewardship
The DOH has provided a recent Decision Tree and Contact Tracing update which replaces the screening flow charts in our Health Protocols document. There are also three new helpful links on the last page of the document.
District Culture and Climate
October is Principal Appreciation Month - please take some time to let your principals know how much you appreciate them. We have an incredible team!
Parent and Community Engagement
- This week, Wednesday and Thursday were the English and Spanish language Supt’s On virtual community meetings. I talked about COVID, Critical Race Theory, and the upcoming levy. We didn’t have large groups join, but it was a very worthwhile time to explore some of these topics with our community.
- The Supt’s On with Staff virtual meeting will be held next Wednesday, October 13 at 3:30 PM. I have been holding these district-wide virtual staff meetings for almost a year and have certainly enjoyed this "open office hour". This is an opportunity for just staff members to hear directly from the superintendent on various topics, hear concerns from staff, or share and hear about some of the great things that are happening. At this meeting next week, I will give a COVID update and share some information on Critical Race Theory. A reminder, along with the link to join, will be sent out to the Official District News email on the day of the virtual meeting.
Staff Updates
We are currently needing substitutes at all levels in the district. If you know anyone interested in becoming a substitute for our district please have them contact Anitra Atchison in the district office.
Other
The enrollment for October is 1,089.39. We are up almost 40 students from this time last year. We budgeted for 1,040 this year.
