Finalist in the Intel Distinguished School

Thank you to Phillip Massey, Susan Riddle, Shanti Kudva, Kathy Blackwell, Kristen Walter,Simone Wertenberger and Annie Jones (and any others I may have left off) for their work on the Award Application. This is such an honor for us! The application process was intense. But obviously we showed the Intel panel what we all know.... we are winners.

Nature Trail and More!

Many of you may not know how hard Donna Godley has been working with the Health Department on our Eat Smart and Move Grant to get our nature trail up and going. She is also planning other fun fitness additions to our school through the grant. Thank you Donna!

2nd Grade Wins a Kids to Park Grant

The second grade won an all expense paid trip to Carl Sandburg Park. They created a flip video to win the grant. They received a Carl Sandburg Satchel full of educational information on Sandburg and his poems. They will visit the farm and conduct a service project while they are there. All students in 2nd grade will get a Jr. Ranger badge.

We are proud of you 2nd Graders!

2. Unpacking Standards for Social Studies Electives Added to the ACRE Website

Unpacking Standards for Social Studies electives have been added to the Essential Standards Support Tools page at http://www.ncpublicschools.org/acre/standards/support-tools/#unsocial. The new material includes eight documents that begin with 20th Century Civil Liberties Civil Rights and finish with World Humanities. Unpacking standards are documents for educators that define the skills students must master to accomplish specific goals. The documents list the essential standards for each grade level and subject, and provide detailed examples on how to teach a standard.
