L'Ecole Charlemagne Monthly Update
September 2018
Et nous avons commencé!
Bonjour les familles!
We hope you've had a wonderful first few days of school! It was great to see everyone last week at our back-to-school social and we look forward to the many ways in which we will celebrate our French immersion community this year.
The coming week will move us more fully into the rhythm of the school year. We hope you've signed up for the weekly e-news via our website: http://charlemagne.4j.lane.edu/. Important school news will arrive in your email at the start of every week so you can be more informed about events and opportunities. This monthly newsletter will be sent at the at the beginning of each month to provide an additional perspective and a global view of our school vision, purpose and core values.
We look forward to the year ahead and welcome your energy and commitment to Charlemagne!

New schedule means new times for drop-off and pick-up!
We shifted our schedule by 15 minutes this year. We provide supervision beginning at 8:00 am and until 3:15 pm. Thanks for your help!
Our 5th grade students leave this week!
New School Handbook for 2018-19
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oShItSLaZJAWZlmKLh0zcrQsOne0MGGyKeE9cAos_n0/edit?usp=sharing
We created this handbook with the intention of welcoming families, providing an overview of our purpose and outlining some important policies and practices at our school. Of note are the first few pages that outline our purpose and program and the last few pages which provide an overview of French Immersion K-12.
This document is ever-evolving and if you have observations or questions, please don't hesitate to be in contact with us!
Curriculum Night and First PTO Meeting
Please join us Tuesday, September 25 for Curriculum Night and our first PTO meeting!
6:00 - 6:45 pm: Grades 1 and 2 meet in classrooms.
7:15 - 8:00 pm: Grade 3, 4 and 5 meet in classrooms.
From 6:45 - 7:00 pm, we will meet in the gym to introduce our staff and parent leaders and hear about the outstanding work our PTO accomplishes each year.
Kinder parents are welcome to attend the PTO meeting; we do not hold curriculum night for kindergarten families since orientation happened prior to school starting.

Supporting Charlemagne
Our school is a unique gem within our district and city. Indeed, the longevity and success of our program is the result of years of hard work, the dedication of staff and families, and a commitment to immersion education, crucially important for our students' futures.
Your student's French immersion education requires additional support to ensure a quality curriculum and experience. From your involvement in our classrooms to your generous financial support, your donations of time and funds enable us to hire additional teachers, bring French-speaking interns to our school, and provide important language interventions for all students.
In the weeks to come, we'll be sharing more information about how you can support Charlemagne in a number of different community-minded ways. We look forward to your active participation in our school... in any form that takes!
