November 2020 Newsletter
This is Superintendent Spencer Holtom with an important COVID update
Dear Family,
This afternoon it was announced that Butte County moved back into the Purple Tier. As I shared last week, falling back into Purple does not require us to move back into full Distance Learning.
We will continue our current models of hybrid in person schooling, Independent Study known as IFLC and distance learning.
Governor Gavin Newsom also announced changes to the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Almost all counties in the State of California are being moved to the most restrictive Purple Tier (regardless of their current tier status).
This means that we need to remain extra vigilant with ourselves, with our students and with each other. I met with our district nurse Teri Woods today and discussed this matter. She reiterated the importance of constant and appropriate mask wearing, importance of social distancing and the following of all of our protocols. Self regulation and self checks are also a very key aspects of caring for the safety of ourselves and others. Parents and guardians please monitor your children very closely for temperature and other safety precautions before school every day.
The district will continue to monitor the situation very closely on a daily basis as we move forward and will communicate any changes as they arise. The board will also be discussing this issue this coming Wednesday.
Thank you again for working with us to keep everyone healthy and safe.
Spencer
Principal's Message
Hello Ishi Hills Families and Friends,
Welcome back to campus! Please be sure your student follows their appropriate school schedule, whether they are on A/B schedule or DL schedule.
Be sure your student/s come to school on their in person days and are still working on their non-in person days, A.K.A asynchronous days. For non-in person, students must check into Google Classroom and/or online office hours with their teachers. Students must be working online throughout the day to be marked present, if they do not log in at all that day they will be marked absent. They will usually have about 4 hours of work to complete.
Distance Learners will have class normally Monday-Thursday, while all students observe Friday as a work day. On Fridays students, must complete assignments and be on programs like i-Ready, Acellus and TCI. Each teacher will communicate what assignments need to be completed. Please be sure to check Aeries frequently. Email your teachers or call me with any questions. DL students will also have about 4 hours of work to complete.
Please come to our Back To School Information Night noted on the flyer above. Cannot wait to see you in the Google Meet!

In an effort to create some normalcy during this school year, we will still be having a Fall Book Fair. It of course will be a bit different, as it will be virtual. The Book Fair dates will be October 23rd - November 5th. Below are a few details on the online Book Fair.
*There are over 6,000 different books available for PreK-High School grade levels
*Free shipping on book orders over $25

A "NOTE" FROM THE ATTENDANCE DESK
Responding to Absenteeism During the Coronavirus Pandemic & Beyond
Please call the office for all absences. It is important for our team to mark your child's absence accurately: sick, doctor, WiFi, and other. 530-532-3078.
*Changes to absences must be made within five (5) school days according to AR5113(b). After this time elapses, the absence will remain unexcused.
Live Spot
I wanted to share again the Live Spot as a resource for students who may need a place to go to during the day for support with their schooling. We are open 8-5:30pm and offer WiFi and breakfast/lunch free of charge. If you have any students who are in need right now due to displacement relating to the fires and evacuations send them our way. Here’s our webpage with more info:
https://butteyouthnow.org/oroville/
We just ask that they register in advance so that we know the numbers to expect and can prepare food and ensure proper social distance spacing accordingly. The link is on the webpage.
Thank you!

WE’RE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN…
We knew doing these expanding hours were necessary. Even though we don’t have the funding to expand hours so drastically, we’re trusting our community will step up to fill the gap and ensure students have a place for people to ensure academic success during distance learning.
We are also open for regular hours 12:30-5pm.
Please help us fund this additional expense
