JW Killam Principal's Corner
Ms. Leveque's Weekly Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Leveque
Happy summer everyone! Like many of you, I relish the pace of summer and how it offers an opportunity to recharge, gather with loved ones, and soak in the sun. I will be on vacation for most of July, traveling with family. This newsletter is a quick early-summer check-in for the Killam community. I'll be communicating more information throughout the month of August.
Staffing Updates:
I'd like to welcome two new staff members to the Killam team! Jaclyn Dunn is our new speech and language pathologist. She has many years of experience in this role, supporting students from age 3 - 12. For the past six years, she has been the speech and language pathologist in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District. We are excited to have her expertise in our school as the newest member of our special education team.
Korrey Lacey-Buggs is our new METCO Coordinator/School Adjustment Counselor. She has over ten years of clinical counseling and school-based experience in the greater Boston area. Korrey has provided therapeutic counseling to over 350 families in her current position and has a long-standing appointment with the Harvard Graduate School of Education to promote community engagement and advocacy work within the Commonwealth. Korrey is also a METCO Alumna and understands the connections and alliances that can be made through this partnership.

Killam School Council - are you interested?
We are still looking for another family/community member who is interested in joining our School Council for a two-year term beginning this fall. By law, each school in Massachusetts must have a School Council composed of family/community members, staff, and the principal. We have been so fortunate to have the following people serve on this Council: Tonia McGuire, Kim Adamo, Bryn Panee Burkhart, and Marc Cerasuolo.
School Council members serve a two-year term. We typically hold elections for School Council members in the fall of each year. We plan to hold 4-5 School Council meetings throughout the school year which will occur remotely through Zoom or another online platform, and meetings will be scheduled in the afternoons, typically 3-4 p.m.
During this school year, the School Council will be involved in developing the School Improvement Plan with a particular focus on anti-bias and equity education, planning and carrying out action steps related to these goals, and reviewing academic and behavioral data for the Killam School. If you are interested and would consider being a part of this important team, please reach out to Sarah Leveque.
