SKATETIME SCHOOL PROGRAM

Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade parents! We are so excited to be offering our skating program (SKATETIME) this year during your child's PE class starting November 8th-19th. Please make sure you fill out the permission form and send it back by October 15th. You will need to log in to SCHOOL CASH to pay the $17 fee. This is an optional program, but we strongly encourage your child to participate. If you have any questions, please email: rollerblading@swenkepto.org .

WATCH D.O.G.S - Dads of Great Students

We are so excited that our WATCH D.O.G.S are BACK!!! This year's Watch DOGS training will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 5:30-6:00 in the Swenke cafeteria. This is a REQUIRED training, and ALL dads planning to participate in the program this school year MUST attend. We look forward to relaunching this program and can't wait to get started!


Our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program is a sure way for our students to be positively influenced by male role models! Fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and other father figures are invited to serve one day a year in a variety of school activities by spending an entire school day on our campus. Notes from the Attendance Office

When a student is absent, a signed parent/legal guardian note, or physician's note must be submitted to the campus attendance office within 3 days of the student's return to school. This note is to include the following information:


  • Student's full name
  • Date of absence
  • Reason for absence
  • Signature of parent/legal guardian
Acceptable excuse notes by email must include the above information along with a copy of the parent/legal guardian's ID. If a note is not provided, the absence will be counted as unexcused.

INFORMATION ON BUS AND LUNCH CARD REPLACEMENTS

Student ID cards are provided by the district and used by all students for utilizing transportation services, making meal purchases, checking out library/textbooks, and identification of students in common areas. If the ID card is lost or damaged it must be promptly replaced. For ID cards that are lost or damaged due to the student's mishandling or negligence, there is a replacement fee.

Gifted and Talented Education

GT NOMINATION: This year, ALL Kindergarten students will be assessed for GT in early spring, so no referral is required. Currently enrolled students in grades 1-5 may be referred by parents or teachers for the HORIZONS program. Referrals must be received by the last school day in November in order for students to be assessed this school year. In grades 1-5, testing is for services beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. For kindergarten, services will start in March, 2022. For more information about the HORIZONS program and referral process, please refer to the CFISD Gifted & Talented HORIZONS link below.

Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS)

At Swenke we participate in (PBIS) which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), the Technical Assistance Center on PBIS supports schools, districts, and states to build systems capacity for implementing a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional and behavior support. The broad purpose of PBIS is to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of schools and other agencies. PBIS improves social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities and students from underrepresented groups.

Dear Parents,


Please screen students daily before sending to school, and do not send them if they have any symptoms or if given any fever reducing medication to mask symptoms.


Please refer to the Lead Safely Plan at https://www.cfisd.net/leadsafely for information on what to do regarding exposure, as well as returning to school if exposed or experiencing any symptoms at all.

Dr. Elizabeth Miller - Principal

Dr. Elizabeth Miller has been an educator for 32 years. She has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from St. Lawrence University, a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Mt. St. Mary’s College, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. She earned her principal certification from Sam Houston State University. She is a certified National Principal Mentor through the National Association of Elementary Principals. Dr. Miller has teaching experience in both middle school and elementary school. She began teaching in CFISD in 1999 before becoming an Assistant Principal in 2006. In 2009 she was named Principal at Swenke Elementary.

Mrs. Sarah Millerhouse - Assistant Principal

Mrs. Millerhouse has been an educator for 17 years. She has an undergraduate degree in Child Study and Language Development with a minor in Special Education from Southwestern University in Georgetown. She earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. She has taught special education in all elementary grade levels and content areas. She has also taught all content areas in general education. She was an English and Language Arts Instructional Specialist for 3 years at Swenke before becoming the Assistant Principal. She has served all of her years as an educator in CFISD, and this is her 6th year as an AP at Swenke.

Mrs. Brandy Breaux - Assistant Principal

Mrs.Breaux has been an educator for 22 years. She has an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Nicholls State University. Mrs. Breaux became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2009. She has teaching and administrative experience in both middle and elementary school. This is her 7th year in CFISD.

Mrs. Stephanie Gable, School Counselor

Mrs. Gable has been an educator for 16 years. She received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas, and her Master's degree in School Counseling from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas. She has taught various grade levels over the years, and this is her fourth year as a school counselor.

Dr. Scott Talley, School Counselor

Dr. Scott C. Talley has 9 years of public and private education experience. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Houston and his graduate studies at the University of St. Thomas. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Education, his Masters in School Counseling, and completed his Doctorate of Education in Ethical Leadership. He has taught various grade levels over the years, and this is his fourth year as a school counselor.


While he works with all students, please note that for the 2021-22 school year, he will be the counselor to contact for Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, and Life Skills students. Our Librarian - Mrs. Angie Arnett

Mrs. Arnett has been an educator for 22 years. She has lived in the Cypress area her entire life and is proud to be a product of Cy-Fair ISD. She graduated from Cy-Fair HS and received her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) After teaching for many years, Mrs. Arnett received her Masters degree in Library Science from Sam Houston. She opened Swenke in 2009. This is her 16th year as a librarian. She also serves as a district lead librarian and is passionate about reading.

Deanna Swenke was selected as the namesake for Elementary #50. Swenke, who retired as the associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction in June 2008, spent 38 of her 44 years in education within CFISD
