Tuesday, March 14 (3.14) is Pi Day, celebrated worldwide. Pi (Greek letter) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant β the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter β which is approximately 3.14159. Pi has been calculated to be over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. Click here to celebrate Pi Day with NASA!

Asheville Maker Faire will be held at AB Tech on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 10 am-3 pm.
Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earthβa family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness and a celebration of the Maker movement.
Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All these βmakersβ come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and share what they have learned.
A short video about the Maker Faire is HERE.
Maker Faires happen worldwide, but Asheville is the only city holding a Maker Faire in North Carolina in 2023.
Notes from the Counseling Corner with Ms. Courtney, School Counselor
What to Do When Your Child says, βMy Friend Is Mad Me.β Excerpts from Kids First Blog What to do when your child fights with a friend.
Stay calm
Take a deep breath and encourage your child to do the same. Try to resist the temptation to pick up the phone or send an email right away. Avoiding the temptation to act on impulse and modeling self-control to your child is an essential life skill.
Show empathy
In the midst of their hurt and anger, your child needs to know that you βget it." Try using words like: You look hurt and angry. From what youβre saying, it sounds like a difficult situation. I can see you donβt understand why they did/said that.
Help your child understand what they can (and cannot) control
In elementary school, children are just learning that they can only control themselves. Try saying: Can you control what your friend says or does? Can you control who they choose to play with? Who can you control? This can lead to a conversation about your child being responsible for their own reactions and behavior.
Help your child find other options
By talking through options, you can help your child avoid negative actions like: spreading mean stories, telling other friends they must choose sides, getting physical, or declaring they will never be friends with this person again. Instead, suggest to your child that they can stay friendly, they can try playing with new people, and they can be open to exploring different activities at recess.
